Why is PayPal not functioning at checkout?

Customer contacted me to let me know PayPal is not working at checkout. I tried checking out as well and received the same error message trying to pay with personal PayPal account. 

 

I disconnected PayPal from my Shopify store and reactivated and still same problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey, @FrankB1!

 

This error usually happens when you have the Encrypted Website Payments setting set to On in your PayPal account. To resolve the issue, all you need to do is set it to Off and the PayPal payment method should work fine. You may head over to your PayPal account and follow the steps below to adjust the Encrypted Website Payments setting.

 

  1. Login to your PayPal account.
  2. Hover your mouse on your name found in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Click Account Settings.
  4. Click Website payments under Products & Services on the left.
  5. Click Update beside Website preferences.
  6. Scroll to the Encrypted website payments section.
  7. Click Off under Block non-encrypted website payment

If the error still appears, please try clearing your browser's cookies and cache and reconnecting your PayPal account.

Thanks Summer, I added a new domain to my store and I think that may have been the problem. Block non encrypted website payment was set to off. I did notice that Auto Return for Return URL Requirements was not updated with my new domain. Updated with new domain and tested, OK.

 

I think I have it fixed. Will test 2nd time and checkout w/PayPal to confirm before contacting customer. Thank you.

Looks like my store is completely locked, no checkout available. PayPal button is gone as well.

 

Did Shopify lock my store? I have no idea what's going on. Thanks

Thanks FrankB1.  You gave me an idea to check the returning domain.  I have no idea why but our domain was http and not https.  I changed it to https and paypal is now working.  After over year of searching why this problem happened!
