Printing Product Labels for my Brick and Mortar Store

Hey Community.

There are a bunch of things to love about Shopify, especially the online aspects of the software platform.  I gotta be honest about the lack of some very basic functions for the POS software.  The biggest challenge I have, is that I need to be able to print product labels for each product that I receive (in transfers or in imports).  WE ARE A RETAIL STORE THAT SELLS PRODUCT ONLINE, NOT AN ONLINE STORE THAT SELLS RETAIL.  There is really no method or process I have found that allow me to print product labels in bulk.

Example #1.....I can't print labels from the transfer window.  If there was a way to bulk print product labels while I receive product, that could solve most of the problems.  It is very unrealistic to print them one at a time, or worse one variable at a time.  The retail bar code labels app, or any app that I can see, does not allow this, but at least that app allows us to print them one at a time.

Example #2.....I can't sort my product in inventory or in products by newest to oldest.  If I could at least sort the products by newest to oldest, I could then print them in bulk with the retail bar code app (but only one (qty) item tho).

Example #3.....I can't find any other printing apps that will handle this small need.

Example #4.....I can't find any expensive Purchase Order apps that will handle this.

Example #5.....Since some of my personnel are not very experienced, I would be unreasonable to expect them to handle advanced spreadsheet management.

Solutions #1.  I really need to print them from the transfer receiving window, being able to choose the qty for each one (lightspeed, vend, square, and microsell have this very simple function).

Solution #2.  If I could sort the product in the inventory window or in the product window by newest to oldest, that would allow us to not only print labels, but manage other aspects of the inventory that we receive.

SOLUTION #3. WE REALLY NEED BOTH OF THESE FEATURES TO COMPETE WITH SOME OTHER SOFTWARE SOLUTION.  SHOPIFY IS WINNING IN MOST OTHER AREAS OF DEVELOPMENT, BUT HERE THEY FALL VERY VERY SHORT.

Am I not seeing something?  Or is there an app that I have not found?

Thanks in advance!!!

Sorry I need to add this.  I do have all products in a specific collection, which allows for a sort, but doesn't allow a printing option.

Again I will answer this one on my own.  There are two apps that, when working together, can give some solution to this.  Both apps are created by Theresistance in Canada, and they are Full Shelf (PO system which is pretty good, but could use a few upgrades) and Multi Label Barcodes (Also pretty good, but could use some upgrades).  When product is received in Full Shelf, the PO can be downloaded as a csv, and then uploaded into Multi Labels Barcodes.  Def a work around, but it does allow for product labels to be printed.

This could all be solved if Shopify would allow api access to the transfer screens for developers to build a 'print labels' feature directly from that window.

See Lightspeed POS for more info.  They have a great feature here.

Heya, Yea I completely agree with the comment about having the "Print Barcodes" on the Transfer page. TO be able to receive a transfer and then immediately print that transfer would be the best. I called in and suggested that, so there is definitely already a feature request in for that.

A great work around is the app you mentioned, "Multi-Label Barcodes".

Here's my process.

- Receive transfer

- Open Multi-Label Barcode app

- using the dropdown menu on the top left (Labeled "Fast Select Items") of the home page of the app I select "Variants updated since 1 Hour ago"

- Add all of the products from my recent trasnfer

- Print the bulk list of barcodes. The app prints uber fast (Much faster than shopifys barcode printing app they used to have)

The app then finds all the products with adjusted inventory within the last hour.

A quick bandaid fix, not what's needed. But certainly easier than manually adding them all from a packing slip

I was wondering if you found anything else since it has been a while since your post. I recently changed to Shopify from QB POS and like you I am a brick and mortar store that does some online I just felt like a cloud based platform is where I needed to be.

o print labels is a nightmare from Retail Barcodes app. It was so simple with QB anyone could do it from a purchase order while receiving. It is so complicated I am thinking of just entering the items into QB just to print tags.

I never ever imagined that they could make something so damn complicated. I can't teach all my staff how to do it that way it is too complicated and to add on to the fact that the smaller labels don't allow you to add any kind of attribute so you get labels that you have to go by retail price or barcode to figure out which is which. It is like a kid with a fire torch a disaster waiting to happen.

I too am struggling with the limited options to print labels.

We are using Stocky - which allows you to print labels for products on a Purchase Order we are using the recommended DYMO printer. This works well when receiving PO's.

Unfortunately, this is the only way Stocky supports printing labels i.e. from a purchase order, so if you have to update labels due to missing/damaged labels or price changes, then it's time to dummy up a PO, print off the labels and then delete the PO.

We have had difficulty printing labels from Stocky Purchase order with a certain tag! I may want to ask you further one of my team has been working on that.  I am glad you have had success with that!
Retail Barcodes is easy to use if you have to change or just print one tag.

I am frustrated about the lack of info on the small tags I am only able to get the price and upc which is difficult because most of my items have some sort of varient!  Has anyone found a workaround for that?

The challenge I have with using Retail Barcodes is that I cannot replicate the format of the label that Stocky creates as they both use a different method for creating the label template.

Retail Barcodes has its own label editor, where Stocky uses an uploaded template that you create in the DYMO label app. The result is that the stock label ends up looking different depending on the method(app) used to print. So at this stage, I'm using PO's in Stocky to print labels - which forces me to create dummy PO's that I never receive only delete once I have printed off the labels.

Have you guys used the app.i recommended?

Multi-Label Barcode appits.pretty damn easy to print barcodes either from the product page, main product list, or from within the app itself.

Hi Shawn

I have not tried the app you suggested yet, I was hoping to avoid as it sounds like a rather complicated set of steps to add to the recieving process. Being an app it's also pushing up the cost of our Shopify subscription. Regardless I can see I may just have to bite the bullet to simplify the other label printing use cases (price changes/lost & damaged reprints, etc).

I am leaving a message with the Shopify support team to see what solution they can offer as it seems like they are not actively monitoring or responding in the community forums.

Stay tuned...
