I happend to be an english speaking guy in the netherlands! After contacting shopify through facebook, it's really sad, and honestly I think also that it's not normal that if shopify offers the POS service in many countries, and don't even care about translating the receipt!

You're gonna tell me if my shop was in china, it will be in English also! This absolutly outrageous, sometimes im asking my self what am i still doing on this platform!

Hey @ben05!

Thanks for getting in touch and many thanks for this feedback.

I can appreciate how this can be a pain point for you and your customers. There is a workaround where you can change the language in your device's settings. This should allow you to print the receipt in your desired language, however that can prove difficult to change back and to be able to find that setting again, especially if it is not a language you're familiar with.

There is quite a lot of existing feedback from merchants on this issue, so what I will do is add this to the current feedback so that our developers can look into this. While I cannot guarantee a timeline of if and when this would be added, please note that your feedback does not go unheard. We really do appreciate feedback such as this to improve the merchant and customer experience in our platform. If you have anything additional you would like to add, please feel free to reply here.

Hi Maz,

I'm an English-speaking guy running a business in Germany and I'm facing a problem with the translations on the Shopify POS receipts. The receipts now print in other languages, but the translation is not entirely accurate. When there is a balance due because of partial or no payment on an order, the POS receipt prints "Fälliges Guthaben" which translates to "Credit Due". This can be a problem because in Germany, we can face huge problems and fines for our official financial documents not having the correct information on them. Our invoices even need to include certain verbiage, or we can get sued and fined.

The correct translation should be "Offener Betrag," which translates to "Open Balance". I have contacted chat support about this, but they have informed me that they have passed it along to the relevant team and that it isn't immediately changeable. I'm physically in Germany to switch my business and five physical locations over to iPads running Shopify POS. However, I can't make the switch because of two words that nobody thought to have a native speaker proofread the translations that were apparently created using Google Translate.

I'm writing this to you because I'm hopeful that this message will get to someone who can urgently pass the info along to the right department and make the quick and easy change in the Shopify back-end. Alternatively, I'm looking for a way that I can change it for my store in the receipt customization.

I've invested a lot of money in five new iPads, stands/cases, five Shopify POS-compatible receipt printers, five Shopify POS-compatible cash drawers, flights to Germany, blocked time schedules of staff that I was supposed to train to use the Shopify POS system, etc. I hope this can be resolved soon.

Thank you.
