REST API order, product, inventory data [python] nested JSON

I've managed to set up connections for the following:

/admin/api/%s/orders.json

/admin/api/%s/products.json

/admin/api/%s/inventory_levels.json

I'm using Python, and I've read the JSONs into a pandas dataframe – but only at the first level (for instance, orders has another JSON nested inside that is line_items).  Does anyone have any advice to read the nested JSONs as additional lines below each master order line (similar to how orders are exported through shopify) or even just to read the line_items as their own separate dataframe?
