How can I automate monthly sales, excluding one item, on my ecommerce site?

I thought this would be a simple thing to set up, but it doesn't seem to be. I want to have a sale on the same day every month. Is there an app that will automatically have a 10% off sale on my site every 10th day of the month? I would like to have the entire inventory on sale EXCEPT one item that is already discounted. Any ideas on how to easily do this without making a discount for every month without clicking every collection except the one with the item I don't want discounted?

Thanks!

Hi, @Laurie_Nickerso

Tira here to help.

Thanks for your question and I appreciate you digging into this on your own. That’s correct, there isn’t a feature in the Shopify admin that allows recurring automatic discounts.

Here are some workarounds you can try:

1) I recommend creating automatic discounts in bulk and scheduling them to activate on the dates you wish to have your sale. This does require some manual work as you will have to either create multiple discount codes and schedule them, or create one discount code, and schedule it periodically. For example, you would schedule your discount code for April 10th, 2021. Once the sale ends, you would have to go back to the discount code and schedule it for May 10th, 2021, and continue this as you need. Check out our help doc for the steps to create automatic discounts.

Before doing this, I suggest creating a collection with the items that you want to have the discount applied to and creating your automatic discount to only apply to items included in that collection. This way, the one item that you want to exclude from the sale/discount won’t have any discounts applied to it.

2) Another option is to add a compare at price to the products you wish to put on sale through the bulk editor. The bulk editor allows you to edit multiple products at once and save those changes. A compare at price allows you to add a sale price to your products, and will show the original price crossed out next to it.

To access the bulk editor and to add a compare at price, you can follow these steps:

  1. Login to your Shopify admin
  2. Click on “Products”
  3. Check off the checkboxes next to the products you wish to include in the sale, then click on “Edit products”.
  4. Click on “Add fields” and then next to “Price” click on “Compare at Price”
  5. A column will appear with “Compare at Price” shown at the top. Enter the prices you need for your price (what you want the sale price to be) and compare at price (what the original price was)  and then click on the “Save” button at the top of the page to save your changes.
  6. You can view your products on your store to see the reflected changes. Check out our help doc for the steps to use the bulk editor

Why is it important to put your products on sale each month? Let me know, I'd love to provide some tips to help.

Hi Laurie,

My name is Alison, and I'm the Customer Success Specialist for Ablestar apps. I apologize for the late reply on this, but if you are still looking for a solution, our Bulk Product Editor app may help.

On the 'advanced' plan of the app, you can schedule edits, and then also schedule the undo. So if you schedule an edit to run on the 10th and it edits price and/or compare at price, you could schedule it to undo the next day (or any other date in the future).

On the 'professional' plan of the app, you can schedule recurring edits that function like the scheduled edits, but can be scheduled to happen hourly, every 2 hours, daily, weekly, or monthly.

If you have any questions about the app you can reach out to us directly at support@ablestar.co.

Best,

Alison
