Why am I receiving spam in my merchant inbox?

  • Why is it that as a merchant I have to deal with spam from Nigera? This is a huge problem and very harrassing. I get so much fake marketing I am that I see no need for Shopify inbox and it's making me rethink my decision of being on this platform. Merchants should not have to deal with so much harrassment from someone who isn't even a customer. This is a major problem that no one should have to recode their site to block countries. Shopify needs to fix this problem.

Hey there, @gabrielledabney. Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community to provide your feedback regarding Shopify Inbox and the sort of messages you are receiving. It's good to meet you!


We've received a good amount of feedback regarding folks receiving unsolicited spam messages via Inbox, and our team is aware that merchant are looking for tools and features to help prevent this from happening. Currently, you're able to block users from contacting you by opening up these spam messages, and hitting the '!' symbol that you would see if the top right corner of the chat box.


In addition to this, the Inbox Developers are working hard to further improve these spam prevention methods, and we hope to have an update in the future that does just that! We don't have a timeline that we can share currently, but keep an eye out for any new updates to Inbox in the future!
