Any free product review (WITH review images) apps out there? Or Paid Recommendation

Hello everyone I have been scouring the market for a app that lets me add images to user reviews...the free shopify user review plugin is great and does everything I need except for that one feature...images.

I think images are a huge help in users converting and would love something affordable. I saw a few apps that looked expensive and not worth switching from the free reviews app.

My other option is paying a dev to add image functionality to the current free reviews app.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @Vladamir,

Nick here from Shopify.

I took a look through the Shopify App store to see if I could find some apps which include a picture review feature that isn't too expensive. I came across a couple that might be worth looking into further to see if they fit what you're looking for. Let's take a look at them below:

You also mentioned having something custom made or added to a current app. This is definitely something to explore. It could be more expensive upfront but in the long term it could work out better. Your best bet for this would be to reach out to a Shopify expert directly which you can do from here

I hope this helps and points you in the direction for best next steps. I will also mention this feature request to the development team on our end for future reference. It's great to receive feedback from store owners such as yourself and hearing about something like this, I completely see how it could benefit you. Thanks again for bringing it up.

All the best, Nick

Seems like its paid now...I dont really trust the shopify store too much with these free/trial apps. Seems like common practice to have a free app for a couple of months, make everyone change over to it and then make it paid when the cost to switch back is now high for a store.

Havent been able to find anything good thats free with images, shopify should add this to its review app this seems like basic functionality in 2019.

The apps in the store for just adding images to reviews are excessively expensive around $10 a month each, thats $120 dollars per year per store, just to have image reviews, for half that cost I can get a developer to build in images. May be the way I have to go... starting to miss woocommerce for its cheap good apps -_-

Agree. It's sad that every app in the store is subscription based, on top of the fact that shopify is lacking some pretty basic features that should be standard like 10 years ago...

H ,

Thanks for the post. Actually HelpfulCrowd Review App has always had a free plan for stores up to 10 products. We didn't change, this but simply removed it from the headline app listing as we were testing what impact it had on installations.

We also always grandfather our customer if we have a plan change, which means that the plan you start with us on is the plan that we agree to keep you on at the same rates. Naturally at some point there may be a review, but we try to provide the best value and experience for our Crowd.

I hope this helps clarify why you may have seen some changes to our store listing.

Kind regards,

Helpful Anna

I have developed a new app that I'm looking for feedback on, which has photo reviews, sales pops, referral tracking and e-mail marketing.  I'd be happy to provide a few lifetime free memberships to those who provide some feedback etc.

Hi Anna  @HelpfulPerson :

I saw that your free plan offers <10 products for review, is that a max of 10 reviews per month, or a total of 10 reviews?

The app looks great...I was getting pretty excited to use it....but Free plan with only 10 products? And then the next option is $20/month. 😞

Hi @JosiesArmoire and @Vladamir ,

I'd be happy to offer you both lifetime free accounts (and others who message or reply to me) for Gravy Sales & Marketing app.  https://apps.shopify.com/gravy. Just let me know once you have added it and what your store name or email is, and I will make your accounts lifetime free.

We do offer photo reviews and email followups with Mailgun.com for best delivery and have added Sales Popups (add to cart and purchases) which we are refining with a development release this next week with more features, so your input this week is timely! 🙂

Hi @JosiesArmoire

So our app has no restrictions on the number of reviews collected. It works on the number of published products in our app, which you have control over.

So you get access to all the features on all plans and the plans are based on the number of published products in our app. We select and show the products based on the lowest to highest review count.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Smeelah

Every app has different strategies for plans. Most restrict on number of review requests/orders and features. We restrict on neither. You get access to all our features and also unlimited review requests and reviews collected.

Our free plan is for stores with 10 products or less, which covers alot of dropshipping stores. Our next plan up is actuall $9.95 for store with up to 50 products...as you can hopefully see on our HelpfulCrowd app page

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Thanks for clarifying this. So, what happens when a shop has over 10 products, would the owner then be forced to select a new plan, or could they opt to keep the same <10 plan but with the limited features? Also, is it possible for customers to add photos to their review?

Hi @JosiesArmoire

thanks for the questions.

So if a store has over 10 products they have 2 choices:

1. Unpublish some of the products (like the ones with no reviews) in our app Product Catalog (not Shopify's inventory).

We'll continue to collect reviews in the background so that you don't miss out and when you have more than 10 products with reviews, you can then...

2. Upgrade to the next plan to display all the products with all reviews.

We don't limit any features in the app.

You get access to all our social publishing tools, recommended products, SEO rich snippets, review commenting, Q&A, dynamic coupon sharing, moderation, auto-publish, profanity filter, customizable HTML emails, reminder emails, 6+ display widgets......and we provide automatic storefront localized support for 27+ languages. There's alot of features that every Shopify store should have without saying.

Customers can add up to a combination of 5 videos or photos to their reviews...

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

@JosiesArmoire Good question!

I imagined that one would have all products available for reviews and then once you had 10 products with reviews, you would have to upgrade. Being limited to seeking reviews for only 10 products doesn't seem very useful. Not useful enough as a trial or to be integrating all the code and then not using other apps. Basically expected your free tier would have branding of some sort:)

Hi @Smeelah

We always welcome feedback so thank you for sharing. We'd like to share some additional thoughts and background to why our plans are they way they are. Every business is different and has different objectives and we recognize that our app isn't for every business.  A simple free plan with limited features and limited review requests works just fine for many stores.

From our research, other review apps free plans generally limit on either one or more of the following:

1. Orders (review requests)

2. Features

We want to go further though and really boost a stores ability to grow faster. When we collect more reviews for more products, then we are doing our job. The store can then use those reviews to sell more and we grow together.  We strongly believe that this is a much better outcome than asking the store for a ton of $ just to access what we believe are essential features to grow their business before they even have one review.... or reviews for even 10 of their products.  Essential features as examples include Q&A, picture and video reviews, coupons, automatic reminders, email template customization, recommended products, profanity filter...there's so many features that our free plan has that no other app has on their free plans.

The feedback that we've heard from many of our community members is that they love HelpfulCrowd because it has no feature restrictions and allows them to grow their business's faster. I suppose many of them also don't look at the paid plans as a cost, but as a return on investment which is a fraction of the cost it generates in profit and it pays itself back many times over.

Thank you again for considering our app and sharing your thoughts. We truly appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Anna

Oh, I forgot to mention.

1. We always collect reviews for products in the background regardless of their status.  If it's on an order then we'll send out a review request, even if it is restricted or unpublished.

2. We do have branding "Independently collected by HelpfulCrowd" which builds more trust and creditbility with potential shoppers. This can also be disabled though by the store on the free plan if desired.

Kind regards,
