How can I change the color of my Collection List on the home page?

Hi all, 

I'm working on the finishing touches of my store and I'm trying to change the color of the Collection List on the home page and have tried a few different coding options so that the slider and each  section behind the collection pics so that its white and blends into the background better with our mostly white theme.

please Go to Online Store->Theme->Edit code then go to assets/style.css ->paste below code at the bottom of the file.

2. Asset->/custom.css ->paste below code at the bottom of the file.

Paste this code on top of the theme.scss file.

.collection-item:not(.collection-item--below):after {
    background-color: white !important;
}
