How to change the slideshow background color in Refresh theme v12.0?

I'm using the "Refresh" theme v12.0 & I'm trying to edit the slideshow background color on my homepage to match the rest of my site (color: black). The sides are defaulting to gray, despite being linked to my default color theme. I've tried copying the CSS info from other discussions to 'edit code,' but they haven't worked. Thanks in advance!
