What's the best way to use subdomains for local websites?

Hi

I'm looking for feedback in regards to the use of subdomains.

I have a localised website and I want to expand it to other towns and cities.

Each location will be independently run in terms of full business operations; stock, warehouse, staffing etc. But will be owned by the same business.

Do I use built in subdomains of shopify or set up individual subdomains via my domain registrar to create new individual shopify stores on each subdomain?

I hope all this makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @HomeGrocer,

You can create multiple subdomains and attach them to multiple stores or websites if you wish, although please note that you'd need to pay for each seperate store you create on Shopify. Some merchants may attach their root domain to Shopify and then use a subdomain on a third-party platform for another purpose—for example, they may create blog.website.com and attach that to their site on a blogging platform while website.com is the domain for their Shopify store. Alternatively, they could also attach their root domain to a third-party website and just have a subdomain pointing to their Shopify store (e.g. shop.website.com).

Please note that you can use international domains via Shopify Markets, allowing you to create a region or country-specific version of your website for each place you sell to. You can attach specific currencies, languages, and region-specific content to each market and have a specific subdomain for each one. However, please note this is generally for specific countries and not as granular as for cities or towns.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have questions.

Thank you Victor.

I think personally that I'll simply add subdomains to my root domain which will be the first store/ location. I don't mind setting up and paying for additional shopify accounts/ stores as each location will pay for their own.

Appreciate your help.
