Hi there 🙂

So I am using the google shopping app through shopify however i am currently getting a message on google merchant center stating Limited performance due to missing identifiers (gtin, mpn, brand).  My products are custom made and i have set them as custom made in shopifys app however i spoke to google and they said that my identifier states that it exists and says yes next to it, where as it needs to say no or false, so this needs to be changed, however google said i need to do this in shopify ?

anybody have any ideas how to change the identifier so that it states false please ?

i have already made sure all my products in the google field are set to custom.

For custom products you must remove the values, brand, mpn and grin and set identifier exists to no.

Do you work contractually? 😉

Physically, not with a contract document. However, emails are contractually binding, when a client agrees and wants to hire me.

Did you happen to find any way to fix this issue?  I have the same problem. Everything is being sent to Google with Identifier Exists "true" when it should be "false", but can't seem to figure out how to change it within Shopify.

You can use feed rules in Google Merchant Center to set it to false and to clear brand, mpn and gtin.

Here is the documentation: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7450276?hl=en-GB

Thank you so much, Emmanuel - this actually works.  Shopify offered no solution.  Huge thanks!

Question about this.  In shopify what is Brand & GTIN under?  These aren't listed as categories in Shopify.  Is Brand=Vendor? GTIN?

Removing the vendor would stink because that is how I can manage price increases etc.

Brand = Vendor

GTIN = Barcode

If you don't want to update your shopify setup, then choose to edit the setup in Google Merchant Center using feed rules: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7450276?hl=en

so I add a feed rule but the listings I have already published still need to click one by one manually. I' dying with thousand of listings I need to correct one by one clicking into "Products with fix suggestions " on Google merchant center. Am I missing anything?

This post is two weeks old, but this answer might help someone else.

Here's a work around that worked for me.  Follow the instructions to add a supplemental feed in Google Merchant Center.  Cell A1, the uppermost left header in your Google Sheet, should read "id" and the rows beneath should be the product IDs from "view examples" in Google Merchant Center warning (I just fixed mine and am going off of memory).  The column header to the right of "id," B1, should read "identifier_exists."  All of the rows beneath it with cells adjacent to your product IDs should read "no."  Have Google Merchant Center fetch that file, wait a few minutes and that warning should go away.  Hope that helps.

i figured it out really easy, click on the google app inside shopify, scroll down on your right where it says product status on your right there is an icon that says manage products, click on it and there you can update that info to false.

May I ask how you change that form Manage availability? I don't see "identifier" so I can't set it to false

In the new GMC interface, you click on the blue plus button and begin typing identifier, and then you can select the correct attribute.

Hi, may I ask do you mean choose "custom product" to True ?

Is it the same thing as "This is a one-of-a-kind or vintage product with no identifier" on Google merchant center?

Is it the same thing as set "the identifier_exist field to "no/false

@She-k Yes. Once you have implemented this, double check the Google Channel app works (because it is known to fail) by going to Google Merchant Center > products > all products > click on a product > scroll to the bottom and view the final attributes.

You should not see, brand, mpn, gtin, and the identifier should be no.

If that did not work, I recommend you follow the guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyvilyMb2Bo

Here you can find a comprehensive Step-by-step solution.

At 3:59 mark you can find an example built on "How to set the identifier_exist field to "no/false" in Google Merchant Center.

Hope this helps 🙂

For posterity's sake..

Also in the Shopify admin, under sales channels you'll have your online store Facebook Google whatever your sales channels are.

Click on Google.

It'll pull the Google overview page up and first has product listings to the right of that it says product status and these are large on the center of the screen.

The product status window will display how many products are going to Google. After that it states how many of those have been approved. The next row down is how many pending. And the next row down is not approved.

Click on pending or not approved depending on what the issue is you're dealing with.

If you're getting messages then I would imagine it's a not approved status.

After clicking the hyperlink next to not approved, the products page with the relevant results.

Click an x✔️ next to the product headline for each of the products you want to edit.

Or simply check the box at the top labeled "showing ## products" to select all.

Then at the top of the column it will show how many selected with a box next to it to click for edit products and a box next to that for remove products.

Be sure and select the center box, edit products.

Now you have the bulk editor screen open.

Select the first window "custom product" after the product headline for each product while holding the shift key. (Note that you can hold the shift key down while you go down the column and click each box you want to select, but if you have to stop and scroll, release the shift key and then scroll down further then apply the shift key again when you begin selecting more boxes. You'll see.. if you want to add it the field for all of the products at once, you need to hold the shift button while you select the field on each product.)

Know that if there are any variants of a product they will not be selectable. You will only select the box "select an option" next to the main product.

Once you have clicked the field labeled "select an option" under "custom product" on all of the products Google listed, continue holding the shift key down and type the letter "F" for freedom.

F for Fudgeknuckles

F for fantastic

F for finally!

I don't know if you actually have to hold the shift key down when you type the f, but I sure as hell wasn't going to find out if it released all of the other boxes after I just spent forever clicking all those fields. 😂

If I just saved you hours of work, you can tip me in my YooperSoul aka YooperSoulProductions store.

F is also for Fantasy. 😉😂✌️💚
