Not currently. We held off on the store until there was a better option for UK/EU businesses (paypal is not enough for our needs). As such, we’ve put our efforts and finances into a new retail outlet instead.
We’re now not expecting to launch an online store until the start of the next snowboard season, but I’m still keeping an eye on Shopify as I think it’s the best option for us right now.
Snowboards! Great business. Our snowboard shop is what started shopify in first place.
We launched it originally very late, 1st January if I remember right and we still managed to sell our inventory pretty rapidly.
I’d say just do it. its plenty early.
Snowboards, skis, and all the respective clothing and paraphernalia. We have two retail stores now – a large out of town development that stocks the core product range (your basics like burton, salamon, etc), to cater for the broadest possible market, and now a small city center outlet for the edgier stuff (like the more obscure lines from the burton umbrella – analog, gravis, red, etc.). The new store opens tomorrow, actually.
Anyway, since the bigger store is more established, and we do our ordering for a september start (we close during the summer), we’re basing our online work around that.
I was the one who started this post.
I’m no longer involved with this due to a change of career. I try to keep up to date in case I decide to change back :)
My cousin, who runs the shops I mentioned, has moved into online selling now, but only on a small scale through eBay. Far from ideal, but we just couldn’t find a solution that met our requirements.
The problem with Chronopay, as I recall, was simply that it wasn’t the full on CC processor that we were after. The process was far from intuitive. Also, when contacting Chronopay, they just sent us a robotic reply that completely ignored our questions and just dumped a load of meaningless marketing babble on us. It didn’t give us a very good feeling about them.
We are still holding out for the possibility of a proper UK payment gateway, like ProtX.
