How can I change default payment or the order

I am offering paypal and bank transfer.

 

I would like to have 

1. Bank Transfer DEFAULT

2. Offer a dicsount when using bank transfer

How can I do this?

Hey Sabine, 

Sadly I have to be the bearer of bad news and let you know this wouldn't be possible. Currently, we restrict the ability to edit the checkout process which includes altering the order of your payment processors. To provide a little more context to that, we restrict access to the checkout to ensure that it's kept secure and PCI complaint. 

As for the discount portion of the question this to wouldn't be something that is possible. The discount field requires being filled in before selecting a payment option as the system needs to send the total order value through API to the payment processor. For this reason, it wouldn't be possible to offer a discount based on payment processor used. One thing you could look into is refunding a portion of the order so long as it's paid through bank transfer. This type of setup would be a "rebate" type deal as you can say "Pay through Bank Transfer, receive 10% off after your order is placed". 

While we don't currently offer the ability to switch up the order of the payment processors this by no means it can't be a reality in the future. If you wanted to follow up with details on why this would be important to you and your business, I'd be more than happy to get your feedback sent over to our developers. 🙂

Hi Peter,

thank you.

I simply prefer bank transfer since there is no reduction fee as with paypal or any other.

All payment mehtods look big and colourful ... banktransfer comes last and in't almost to see.

However I might do the afterwards rabatt.

I would really like to see the option to change the order of the payment methods. Here in Holland credit cards are rarely used, but it is now the default option.

Of course I understand you want to keep shopify safe, but not being able to change anything at all will certainly cost conversions.

I notice people already get confused when the most common payment method for their country can't be set as default.

I see many people dropping out of the process when they get to the payment page.

There is no way to (split) test anything... If I knew this before I would have chosen a different webshop platform to be hounest.

it is ridiculous something so basic as this is not implemented. The only thing that needs to be done is a possibility to drag and drop the positions of the payment methods in de settings, of even easier put in an option to set a numeric position order.

 

Every shop platform has this ability... As someone said before, in holland almost nobody  pays with Creditcard, and now at first it looks you can only pay with creditcard.

 

Would really appreciate it (and all other dutch shops) if this is implemented

When will this be resolved. I've made the same comment on another thread about the same issue. Please allow us to order payment methods, or at the least, select the default method.  As the button 'more payment options' takes forever and a day to load (3+ seconds), and stupid Paypal is the default, which is in my opinion a Micky mouse gateway for budget stores.  I do not want to prevent people from using Paypal should they wish, but i certainly don't want to encourage it or make it look like that is our preferred payment method from the product detail page.  A huge advertisement for Paypal, a company and logo that is not fitting with our branding.  Please fix this asap.

I also want to add my voice to this thread. This is really something that is needed. 95% of people in my country will use one payment method, and this is automatically placed at the bottom of the payment options. We would like to have the PayPal option but I would like it to be the last option and definitely not the first. Also, the PayPal option takes up a lot of real estate on the payments page. It has colours and it draws the attention. The other two payment options (which most of our users actually use) is text only. It hardly looks like they are even options because PayPal dominates the page.

It would be good to be able to set the default payment method and also the order that they appear. Everyone's clientele has different needs, and we merchants know what works in our own countries.

I’m very disappointed after reading this topic. In my country we only can use 2checkout and the fees and currency converdions cause me a a lot of loosses. Please let us choose the default pay method!!!

I bet this is stuck as an issue on some backlog of the developer team, I think i could fix this in 30 mins, then someone could review the code in less than a week, and it would be done by the next week, in its most hackish form it is just 1 line of javascript code that would select the default method checkbox after page load?

 

Besides the fact that shopify doesnt support multiple languages (which granted is really hard to implement), how has this not been implemented? Its an easy fix that is measurably costing alot of customers, we turned off credit cards to test it, and we get 3x the orders if we just leave our countries most used payment method as the only one, which it shouldnt be!

We are currently setting up Shopify for our business and this is big obstacle and may force us to change our decision to go with Shopify!

We need to change the order the payment methods and set default payment method.

Are you guys working on that and it is expected to be available?

I would like to add that we are losing sales because of this. In mobiles only the default credit card is shown and people do not scroll to check the other options. I am getting loads of abandoned checkouts because of this. 
Please advise us with a workaround at least.

Here is one more customer that would love to the the option of changing the order of the payment methods. Is there a road map or a time frame when this issue will be fixed?

Just adding my 2 cents to this. Paypal used to account for only a small percentage of our orders before, but after moving to Shopify then Paypal has been the most used payment option. As someone has pointed out and I also said to support, the way this looks now is almost as if PayPal is the only option. I even asked if PayPal was paying for this placement - maybe they are? Anyway, my conclusion was to remove PayPal as a payment provider. This is obviously far from ideal and this issue may eventually force me to move to another platform.

@Trevor  Please provide an update. This is extremely important for a lot of users to save on fees and provide the best possible UX to the customer.
