All things Shopify and commerce
Hello,
One of my menu topics should, as soon as someone clicks on it, direct to a lower section on the home. It should not switch to another page, but simple directing the customer downward.
Does someone know how this works?
Hi @herbmedia ,
Thanks for reaching out! That is an excellent question.
Firstly, can you tell me why you would like to add this type of navigation to your website? I totally understand that it looks nice but other than that, what kind of improvement do you expect to see after implementing this type of customization?
Adding anchor links to the navigation is outside the scope of what our Theme Support team can support, as it can be challenging to implement and maintain by increasing the likelihood of broken links and ongoing required adjustments. This can also have a negative impact on SEO, as search engines consider in-page anchor links as "unnatural links", which can result in lower rankings and even search engine penalties.
However, if you still want to proceed with this customization, you can check these unofficial tutorials within the Shopify Design section in the Community Forums! Remember that before you customize a theme, it's a good idea to make a backup copy to discard your changes and start again if needed.
There are also third-party YouTube video tutorials on achieving this, such as this one. Again, keep in mind that this is not a Shopify tutorial, and it may not be up to date at all times.
But if you need more time to get comfortable with coding and need further help, you can hire one of our Shopify Experts to assist you in coding or create a tailored solution for your anchor links. Also, if you are using a paid third-party theme, it might be worth checking with theme developers if they offer this editing.
Finally, you could look into ready-to-go solutions with apps like GemPages. The drag & drop landing page builder allows you to easily create anchor links and navigation. Here is a video of how it works.
By the way, I am curious if you have anything planned for BFCM this year, but now is the time to prepare. BFCM is one of the biggest sales weekends of the year and sees the start of the holiday season as well. So every year my go-to is this BFCM Checklist. It allows me to make sure that I am making the best use of my time and resources, and it really helps take the pressure off by starting early. It is well worth the read should you be interested!
