How to stop fake signups like Jake Smith on my site?

I am getting a lot of Jake Smith signups.

The emails usually have this format name+1234@gmail.com

or have a first name that looks something like ZMbMS2iMP3

Anyone else getting these and is double opt in the only way to stop them?
