Why am I seeing Google Merchant Centre errors with my product listings?

Why am I seeing Google Merchant Centre errors with my product listings?

I keep getting issues on merchant centre that are limiting exposure on my products.  I've submitted a couple of help tickets to google but haven't got anywhere.

Firstly, I was getting these:

Missing value [description] but when I click to fix description is there

Missing value [price] also the price is there

Policy requirements not met - when I click to view it says

No issues for you to fix

All setup & policy issues will be shown here

Now this week it has added a more serious issue - Missing value [image link]

this is on every single product.  My pictures haven't change.  The link displayed on merchant centre works.

I'm scratching my head now, don't know where to turn next - any ideas???

For the specific product with the issue, consider make a small edit, such as the description. And it should auto update again.

If that fails, consider contacting support: https://support.google.com/merchants/contact/shopify_3p_support_app

Or use a better app such as https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds

I have the exact same issue. All of the products have a missing value [image_link]. And if I open one of the products to edit, all the images are there.

But at least I found out where the error might come from. I downloaded all products from merchants to see what exactly is going on. Turns out that every product is somehow duplicated with a slightly different version of the product description. Seems like some kind of translation is being done automatically. So all the ‘translated’ lines only have a product description, but no further info, like the images for example.

I’m curious to know if that’s the case with you as well.

I've downloaded and opened on notes.  If I search a product number it does come up in 2 separate areas, one doesn't have any of the info though, just the link to the product on our site.  The ones with descriptions on seems to have photo details with them.  I submitted a support request on 19th Jan and just keep getting weekly emails that they are still looking into it.  Very annoying!

Yes it is annoying! Looks like something in the feed, I cannot change anything in Google Merchant Center. Still looking for a solution myself. Tried it from scratch by reconnecting to the feed, but same result. Let us know if you get any answers on your ticket.

From experience, if you have duplicate listings, this can be caused by how things are setup in Shopify, such as personalisation apps. If you do any of that, then check the app to ensure products are not published.

You can also unpublish products in the data feed app itself, if you can not figure out where it's coming from.

Thanks for the response. I checked all apps to make sure they don't publish and everything seems fine. The best clue I have is the CSV I downloaded from the Google Merchant Center. All products have duplicates as said, so when I sort on Shopify ID there are two things that stand out. One is the product description and the other is a field named 'channel'.

As for the second, there are two values, online and local. The online rows have all the correct information. The other row, with the value 'local' only has a product description. And the weird thing is that those descriptions are not the ones I made in Shopify. There is some kind of translation going on. So here's an example:

Storm lantern Baby Special 276 - Light Green

shopify_NL_8976930341205_47900991357269

39.00 EUR

Feuerhand Stormlantaarn 276 Licht Groen

shopify_NL_8976930341205_47900991357269

39.00 EUR

The top one is how it is in Shopify, the bottom row translated into Dutch. And that's the row where the value in the field Channel is 'Local' . Or in dutch: the field is 'kanaal' and the value is 'lokaal'.

All this suggest that there is some kind of setting that I have a local shop and in the feed all products are translated or checked on the basis of the EAN code and get the dutch description.

I checked in Shopify in all available settings if there is anything related to this, but cannot find anything.

If you are using the google and youtube app, consider disabling the local feed setup.

If you are using a different app, check that app and disable local feeds.

So, today something else strange has happened.  A few of my products have been added to Merchant Center with the data source as my website.  They are all approved.  These products are ticked as unpublished on my Shopify data feed, which isn't something I've done.

Google as of a few months ago, also imports crawled products, that they can't find in the feed. I recommend going to GMC > products > feeds > and disable the automatic import should be above your primary feed.

Okay thanks, I appreciate it. So Google is crawling as well. I read about that. However I can't find the settings you're referring to. I can find the feed, but there's little to no settings whatsoever.

On the overview page I can toggle between my online store (with 154 approved products, which is all of them) and my Local Store, which I don't have. In the CSV I can clearly see that all the crawled products belong to the local store and all of the 154 products are disapproved for my local store.

So the question for me is, why does Google think I have two stores?

- In Shopify I publish every product in two sales channels, online store and Google and Youtube as a channel

- Point of Sale is turned off, alle products are No/False on that channel

- In Shopify settings I don't have a second location

- There are no apps referring to another location, or are publishing products

- I disconnected my Google business profile to make sure it would not include that as a second store (that did nothing by the way)

So I am out of options here. Any other suggestions?

If you don't see it where I pointed, then your good.

Please note, as there are lots of different users replying and asking questions, it is getting a bit confusing what your issue is. So as indicated, you need to disable local shopping ads, in your app.

Online vs local, does not mean two stores. It just means  you offer local pickup and delivery. Because this options was enabled in the app you are using. It will take a month or more for GMC to disable after you have disabled it in your data feed app.

I'd like to add one other thought. Something that might be linked to this issue is that I uninstalled the Point of Sale app a while ago. Way before publishing any products to Google Merchant Center. I also had two locations in settings. One for my office address and one for my warehouse. So is it in any way possible that by uninstalling the POS app some settings went corrupt or anything like that? Love to hear your take on this.

Hello Firesite,

Did you managed to resolve this issue? If yes, How? Facing the same issue with our Merchant center 😞

Local products are missing inventory data and limiting the products in GMC.

We had a Google Business Profile connected in the YouTube and Google Channel in Shopify which is now disconnected.

Hi

Yes after chasing google support multiple times over 2 months, they finally resolved it.  i didn't have any issues with connection to my google account though, it was an issue with their feed so nothing I could have done to resolve, just had to wait for them to fix it.
