All things Shopify and commerce
I just received an email from shopify that they turned off my redirect from allmessy.myshopify.com to allmessy.com. But when I go to allmessy.myshopify.com it still directs me to allmessy.com. Does it still take a while after I get the email?
I would also like to know the best way to connect the two. I currently have a splash page at allmessy.com. I would like to remove that as it costs money. I originally set it up in godaddy to forward allmessy.com to allmessy.myshopify.com but when you referenced allmessy.com in a facebook post, it showed the splash page on allmessy.com.
I also really don't want to wait the 7-10 days to transfer allmessy.com to shopify.
Hi @rsburnam1,
As for connecting your domain to your Shopify account, you don't necessarily need to transfer your domain to Shopify, which can indeed take 7-10 days. A more straightforward solution is to simply connect your existing domain (allmessy.com) to your Shopify store. Shopify has a comprehensive guide on how to do this, which you can find here. This guide will walk you through the steps to connect your domain hosted by another provider (like GoDaddy) to your Shopify store. This way, you can bypass the splash page and have allmessy.com directly showcase your Shopify store, enhancing your brand consistency and user experience.
Let me know if you need more help with this process!
Hi @rsburnam1 ,
It looks like the redirect has been removed as i can open the site https://allmessy.myshopify.com/ now.
My suggestion for you would be to make the domain allmessy.com as your main domain.
When I go to "allmessy.com" -- it just shows some kind of GoDaddy website.
If you're looking to use the domain "allmessy.com" with your Shopify store (allmessy.myshopify.com), then you can do that without having to transfer your domain name over to Shopify. You'll just need to edit your DNS records on GoDaddy's end.
This can usually be done automatically by simply adding the domain to your domain section within the Shopify admin (Admin > Settings > Domains), and then it'll prompt you to login to GoDaddy, to confirm the DNS changes.
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains/connect-domain-automatic
Alternatively, you can edit your domain's DNS records manually, on GoDaddy's end.
https://ca.godaddy.com/help/manage-dns-records-680
This page lists what the DNS records need to be changed to:
Once the above is completed, it should start working almost immediately (they say it can take up to 24 hours, but it's usually good-to-go within an hour).
Hope the above helps! 🙂
Cheers,
Stephen
