Why is Shopify not supporting Webp images?

I'm having a problem with Webp images, most of my suppliers have upgraded their websites, and are now using the Webp image format for images, which means that I can no longer "hot-link" to image URL's in Shopify.

TinyIMG is supposed to solve this problem, but for some resason it's not working, can anyone help me out
