How can I improve the speed of my migrated website?

7 0 5

We have recently migrated our website to a new shopify theme "BLOCKSHOP".

We are facing issues with website speed as we are unable to fetch the speed from Google pageinsights/GT metrix and website is very slow.

Can you please help fix this issue and help us in optimizing our website speed.

Hello @EKAMOnline,

The faster your site is, the more users you are likely to convert.

Follow the below tips that will help you decrease the load on your web pages.

1. Image compression is important and a necessity for faster loading web pages. Make sure your images are of good quality and do not add too many images on a single page.
2. Use a System font which is a font that is already installed on most computers. For example: Segoe UI, Times New Roman. If you use a font that does not yet exist on your customer's computer, then the font has to be downloaded before your text can be displayed. This impacts the time that your store takes to load.
3. Minimize broken links and redirects - Avoid unnecessary Redirects and fix broken links
4. Using slideshow, which are high-quality images combined with transitions, take time to load when the user clicks the link to the homepage. So instead you can use a single high quality hero image.
5. Always choose a theme that is responsive, fast, and takes minimal time to load the page. If you choose a theme with numerous sliders, fancy animations, advanced navigation systems, etc., will affect your page speed.
6. Don't add too many images on a page
7. Use Lazyload wherever required to reduce initial load time
8. Removing unused app code is a best practice that avoids running code for unused features, and makes your theme code easier to read.
9. Replace GIFs with static images
10. Themes contain CSS, JS, HTML which can increase and affect your store speed. So disable theme features you don't use.
11. Loading extra data your customers aren't using can impact your store speed without adding value.
12. Reduce the HTTP requests. For example: Combine & inline your CSS scripts
13. Replace GIFs with static images
14. Remove third-party JS scripts and Shopify App which you are no longer using

A slow-loading website can reduce your conversions and profits. A fast-loading website is essential to welcome massive traffic to the website. In the case of eCommerce stores, speed and page loading time play a pivotal role in the success and growth of businesses. Apart from speeding up your store, for getting better conversions, make sure your store products are Found on Google. Hey there @EKAMOnline

We checked your store's on Google PSI and honestly speaking, it was really bad. In terms of speed, a lot needs to be done in your store. Google’s GTM Metrics is not giving any response and there can be multiple reasons for this like - laggy performance, 3rd party scripts, no response on time, etc.

To share exact information and loopholes, we would be needing collaborator access to your store. For the time being, here is what you can do to improve your store’s performance -

  1. Remove all unwanted Shopify apps. Apps that you have installed but you’re not using anymore.
  2. Minify Javascript, CSS.
  3. Reduce image size without hampering their quality. You can compress your images to an extent where their pixels don't burst.
  4. Replace gifs with static images.
  5. Reduce product images by using Shopify App (for bulk).
  6. Remove videos from landing pages.

Once you’ve done the above things, you can check back with your scores and you will see a slight change in your store’s performance. You can reach out to us, and together we will ensure that your store loads fast, and it’s as responsive as we are! All the best!

Thank You,
