Why is my Blockshop version 8.5.0 theme site loading slowly?

Hi Shopify,

My site is https://beli.com.my

I tried to check my site on gtmetrix.com and I got below error:

Plus my site is returning slow speed loading, I tried to troubleshoot with Shopify Chrome Inspector, I'm not able to find the Icon'. I'm using Blockshop version 8.5.0 theme. Any help are welcome.

I just had a quick check and saw that you are showing so many products on the homepage, it will take more time to render your page and increase excessive DOM size. If you page is loading slowly, the customers will leave your store, they don't have time to wait. Just show a few featured products or collection on the homepage, if the customers interested, they can find more on the collection page. My suggestion is just show a Slideshow section with 2 slides, next is Collection list section then next is Featured collection section and the last is "Our core values" section.

Adding too many images on a page can be frustrating. It can significantly slow the load time of your website. Also, it can overwhelm visitors, which will ultimately result in a poor user experience, a high bounce rate, and a high probability of lower rankings in relative search results.

You should disable app features you don't use, or you can remove the app if you don't need it.
9. Replace GIFs with static images

11. Removing unused app code is a best practice that avoids running code for unused features, and makes your theme code easier to read.
12. Themes contain CSS, JS, HTML which can increase and affect your store speed. So disable theme features you don't use.
13. Loading extra data your customers aren't using can impact your store speed without adding value.
14. Use a System font which is a font that is already installed on most computers. For example: Segoe UI, Times New Roman. If you use a font that does not yet exist on your customer's computer, then the font has to be downloaded before your text can be displayed. This impacts the time that your store takes to load.
15. Use minified CSS and JS files

There is some good advice here from @flareAI and @James_FoxEcom, but I just wanted to weigh in with some additional context that I'm quoting from our help guide on your Online store speed report:


In your store admin, you should see a speed score. This is calculated using Lighthouse, so you do not need to run it through another Lighthouse speed test. Your speed score measures how fast your online store performs in the Shopify test environment, based on Google Lighthouse performance metrics.

Your speed score is recalculated daily. Due to the way the score is calculated, your score might not change immediately after you make changes to your online store. If your store is new or password-protected, then you might not have a score.

As others have mentioned here, having lots and lots of unoptimized images on your website, along with third-party code from apps injecting javascript, as well as extra code from code edits you may have made to your theme, can add "weight" to your website. More "weight" means a longer waiting time.

I recommend that you check in with the theme developers directly, and consult their documentation too. Before making edits to your theme, see if you can make a copy of it to revert to if needs be.
