Does Shopify support the APNG format?

Does anyone know if shopify currently supports the APNG format, or if there is something I would need to add to my template to support them?

As far as I am aware it's not possible to use APNGs within Shopify, at least as of yet. You may want to convert it to an animated GIF file.

With all modern browsers now supporting apng, does Shopify anticipate supporting this image format in the future? It opens the door to many possibilities for designers.

I'm not sure if that's waterproof, but I changed .APNG extension to .PNG without touching the file and used it as a collection image. The upload worked in Shopify Admin, and the animation worked on my Chrome browser on Windows and on Android.
