Risks involved in reversing migration? I need to reduce my data so I can migrate in detail mode as summary mode did not include full data information.

Hey Cindy,

There's not enough context in your post for me to provide any kind of meaningful advice.

Which platform are you migrating your data from?

Which migration service/platform/app/method are you using?

How are you planning to 'reverse' the migration?

Why do you need to 'reduce' your data?

Which kind of 'data' are you trying to 'reduce'? (ex. customers, orders, products, etc.)

Is this is a live site that's currently making sales, or are you still in the setup phase?

If you let me know some more details, then I can try to help point you in the right direction, or else clarify what some of the risks may be.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hello Stephen,

I migrated from QuickBooks POS, via the QuickBooks Desktop Connector App.

My customer, product and vendor data are very large, allowing the data to migrate in summary mode only. I want to remove all non-essential data, migrate essential data in detail mode, recreating customers, products and vendors in Shopify directly, as new.

With data in summary mode, my sales, invoices and bills sync with QuickBooks Desktop as Shopify default customers, default vendors, default products. I must manually change everything to show the correct information. Attached is a screen shot of invoices in the default mode vs invoices I've corrected.

Shopify support said the migration can be reset, I referred to it as reversed; however, I was told there would be risks.

My business is face to face, brick and mortar, not ecommerce yet. I have been in business since 2005, yet with Shopify just a few months.

I appreciate your response,

Thank you,

You'd want to reach out to the support team of the app you used to do the migration.

There isn't an app named exactly as you put, "QuickBooks Desktop Connector App".

The closest I could find were these two:

- QuickBooks Desktop (https://apps.shopify.com/quickbooks-desktop) [qbspsupport@parextech.com]

- Webgility QB Desktop Sync (https://apps.shopify.com/ecc-cloud-quickbooks-online-integration) [support@webgility.com]

If you used either of the above 2 apps, then see the email I included above for who to contact. They'll be able to assist with the reset/revert of your migration, as well as fully explain the risks (if any) in doing so.
