Domain transfer from Shopify

I recently closed my Shopify store and received my domain transfer code. I am going to be using the domain name I bought through Shopify but I need to change the nameservers setting at my domain registrar to allow me to host a domain name with a different provider. Where can I login to my domain registrar’s client area and manage the domain.

Sounds like your next step is going to be to complete the transfer process. In short, you'll want to do the following steps: 

Your domain will be locked again if you don't complete your transfer within 30 days.

Hi @Kingtut,

I'd be happy to help. May I ask where you purchased the domain in question from?  Is the problem that you need to access your old store to disconnect your domain or are you just looking for instructions on how to transfer it to a new store? Or, are you wanting to transfer a domain to a third-party platform? 

There are several steps involved in a domain transfer, detailed here. 


Additionally, if we are dealing with a third-party domain you can learn how to remove it through your admin. If you are transferring a Shopify domain away from Shopify, you'll want to be sure it's been over 60 days and then use the guide here to manage your transfer.

Thanks for your response. My Shopify site is closed and I purchased a sub domain from them. I just want the domain name released so I can add it to my 3rd party provider.

I have an inactive shopify account where my domain was purchased - i'd like to transfer it to my active shopify site. It is asking me for a verification code from the provider and I haven't received anything to allow me to complete the transfer. Surely I don't need to reactivate that subscription to make this transfer right? Can you help??

Hello, 

I am having the same problem. My Shopify store is closed as I'm no longer using it for ecommerce, but I'd like to transfer the domain to another registrar. I cannot access the domain admin since the store is closed. I need to obtain the EPP/Auth code for the new registrar. 

My domain was originally purchased several years ago through another service and transferred to Shopify in mid 2019. The store was closed in December 2019, but I'd like to now transfer it.

Hello, i got the same issue, my store is not alive anymore and i would like to transfer domain. My domain was renewed in september via Shopify. How can i get the code to transfer the dommain?

Hi,

I initiated my domain transfer from Shopify to crazydomains and even though the shopify domain manager shows domain is unlocked , with authorization code and a public WHOIS. Crazydomains is telling me they cannot see this info and that the domain is blocked for a transfer.

I have been stuck with this for 3 days now! Please help

Hello,

I received an email today saying that my Shopify domain is unlocked and can be transferred to another provider. However, I have followed the instructions to initiate domain transfer, but the "Transfer To Another Provider" button is greyed out and cannot be clicked. I have tried calling your support and cannot reach anyone to help me with this issue. How do I initiate my domain transfer to GoDaddy??

Hello,

 

I started the transfer of my domain out of shopify. I followed the instructions for transfer and got the transfer code. However this code gave me an error on Tucows (where I want to transfer the domain to). See below. Could it be that the code expired as I used the one that I got a week ago? Please help me as I don't want to keep paying shopify until I transfer the domain...I am no using the store anymore for the last 2 months! Thank youAthorization failed.jpeg

How long ago did you purchase your domain? Are you attempting to transfer more than 30 days after beginning the process? Any further details you can provide will help me know how to best assist you. Thank you!

My free Trial has recently ended and I have decided to transfer my domain from Shopify. I have read the articles here, but I cannot access to any option in my portal to start the transfering. It just shows I have to buy a package. Why do I need to buy a package when I want to transfer my account? Please advise.

Can someone from Shopify staff answer and solve this issue, please? I can see it has been arisen numerous times by people here and no clear answer is provided. 

 

I want to transfer my domain from Shopify to Square Space. As it is outlined when i contact the Square Space, two things should be done before contacting them:

 

  1. As always, first, unlock the domain and get the authorization code from your current registrar (Shopify);
  2. Then go to the Domains section of Settings in the ‘Home Menu’;

In Step 2, when I get to my account nothing shows and it just asks me to enroll in a plan. I do not want to stay with Shopify, that's why I don't want to purchase any plan. How can I simply unlock my domain and get the code?

To begin the transfer process it will require access to your Shopify admin. If you do not have any outstanding invoices on the account, then our Support team can extend the trial by 48 hours to allow you access into the store. From there, you can follow the steps outlined in our help centre to complete the transfer process

 

Keep in mind that domain purchases are locked for 60 days. The 60-day restriction is imposed by ICANN and not something Shopify can bypass. If the 60 day period hasn't expired, then your domain can not be transferred. Only purchase domains are eligible for transfer. The free ".myshopify.com" URLs provided at the time of signup can not be transferred away from Shopify. 

 

You can contact Support by logging into your store through the help center, searching your question/issue, then selecting "continue" at the bottom of the page that displays the search results.

Thank you for your reply. As you suggested, Could you please update Shopify to activate my Store for 48 hours that I can unlock my domain and get the transfer code? I have checked that and its already 60 days have been passed from purchasing the domain time.

I do not have access to your store via the Community. In order to get support with this, you will need to contact Shopify Support directly. You can do this by logging into your store through the help center, searching your question/issue, then selecting "continue" at the bottom of the page that displays the search results.

Hello,

 

I purchased my domain from Shopify around 2 months ago, but now want to move it. I started the process from the receiving institute and i was told I need to unlock something in Shopify to let the transfer happen. When I log into my Shopify portal, I don't see any option to choose and only I see I have to select a plan! There is also no Contact information (support line) as I explored the Shopify website. Could you help me through that?
