Hero Video suddenly loading slower than a month ago

Hi everyone,

We set up our store about a month ago and added a hero video that ran smoothly and without any hiccups. Then about a week ago or so, we started getting reports about the video all of a sudden being slow to load and buffering a lot, which completely negates the idea of having it there.

Does anyone have any tips or have you experienced something similar? We haven't made any changes to the site so we're really confused why it is all of a sudden causing problems.

Feel free to check it out at freejogger.com

This is an accepted solution.

To anyone else coming across this issue, it turned out in my case to be a theme update that for some reason throttled my auto-play video, and as soon as I updated to the latest theme update (at most like 4 weeks newer) the video played smoothly again as intended.

Hello @Freejogger,

I am Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $7Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot. I am here to support you.

Here are several actions you can follow to address and potentially resolve the problem.

-> Decrease the video file size using a video compression tool. This will help reduce the file size while maintaining acceptable video quality.

-> Confirm that the video hosting platform you're utilizing is operational and hasn't encountered any service interruptions or performance issues.

-> Clear your web browser's cache and cookies. These elements can sometimes impact video loading. Advise your customers to do the same if they're encountering problems.

-> Assess your internet connection's stability to rule out buffering issues. Test your store's accessibility from diverse devices and networks to identify any persisting problems.

-> Examine whether any recent installations of Shopify themes or third-party apps are causing conflicts that affect performance. Temporarily deactivate these apps or customizations and try switching to a default theme to check for improvement.

-> Implement a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to enhance video loading speed, catering to users' geographical locations.

-> Consider adjusting video autoplay settings to permit users to initiate playback by clicking or interacting with the video. Autoplay may lead to performance challenges, particularly on slower connections.

-> Evaluate the video's performance across various devices, with particular focus on mobile phones and tablets. Different devices have varying requirements for smooth video playback.

-> If the issue persists, contemplate contacting Shopify's customer support for guidance and assistance.
