How to correctly redirect a Shopify website to Etsy?

How do I properly redirect my Shopify website to my Etsy shop?  Since I'll need to slowly migrate all blog posts and collection information elsewhere, I'm assuming that I'll still have access to the Shopify backend after implementing a 301, correct?  My domain is with GoDaddy.

Hi, @John_Brana!

Welcome to Shopify Community. Thanks for sharing your question with our network.

I'd be glad to work as your point of contact from Shopify's end to help you migrate over to Etsy. It's unclear from your question whether or not you would like to keep your Shopify store and account active.

However, since your new store is not on Shopify and your domain provider is also third-party, it's safe to assume that all changes you make will be external to Shopify. As such I'm not quite familiar with the exact changes you will need to make on Etsy or GoDaddy, but I did find this Etsy article on domain re-directs that could offer some insight.

I would also recommend that you connect with GoDaddy on making URL re-directs for the Shopify links that will become inactive. The more proactive you are with this situation, the better the experience will be with migrating to your new store.

After the domain points away from Shopify, is there a way to prevent the myshopify.com displaying on the front end?  I would like to have some time to offload products and blog posts to other platforms, but do not want any front end access.

Thanks for following up, @John_Brana!

The online store must be attached to a domain - whether the custom one or the default .myshopify.com URL. While that is the only option, I can recommend that you instead enable the storefront password to prevent visitors from being able to access your Shopify store. To access this setting, head to:

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Go to the Password protection section.

  3. Uncheck Restrict access to visitors with the password.

  4. Click Save.

I trust that will meet your needs until you're ready to officially close down your store.
