You can use it as a third party payment, same as you would for cash, check, external credit card, etc.
Shopify doesn't run the store. Anyone can open a Shopify store. You need to dispute the charge with your credit card company.

You are buying it for someone else. You buy it from the store, then send it to the giftee.

What does this have to do with Shopify? Anyone can open a store on Shopify.If they haven't set up the site properly so that you can purchase something, go else to buy.
