$500 Google Ads credit

Topic summary

A merchant received a $500 Google Ads credit notification but is unsure whether this amount is sufficient for Q4 advertising. The credit’s value depends entirely on daily spending—it could last 100 days at $5/day or just 2.5 days at $200/day.

Important considerations:

  • Credits typically require spending a minimum amount first before activation
  • Terms and conditions contain specific qualification requirements that merchants often overlook
  • Many users don’t receive credits because they fail to meet eligibility criteria

Recommended approach for music-themed wood signs and stickers:

  • Start with standard shopping campaigns using an advanced targeting strategy to minimize budget waste
  • Performance Max campaigns offer easier management and may also be effective
  • Testing different approaches is essential since every account performs differently

The discussion remains open with basic guidance provided but no definitive campaign strategy established.

Hi - let me start by saying I really know nothing about Google Ads! I keep getting a notification about having a $500 credit for Google Ads. I have no idea if that is a lot or a little. Would it be sufficient to get me through Q4? And if so, what’s the best way to use it?

Hello Kpatti, thank you for your question and for joining the Shopify AMA. My name is Emmanuel, founder of FeedArmy, and your host for today’s AMA.

I would not know if that is a lot or not. As it depends on how much you spend daily. If you are only spending $5 per day, it’s a lot.

If you are spending $200 per day, it’s not a lot.

And you do have to spend x amount of money before you get a credit, I recommend you read the small print, as it has lots of rules and requirements that you may not realize. I see a lot of merchants complain after the fact such as not getting the credit, because they do not qualify.

ok, good to know, I’ll check it out. Can you give me an idea of where to start with choosing how where to advertise? I’m just trying to boost some traffic to my shop during Q4. I sell music themed wood signs and stickers.

To start, i would setup standard shopping campaigns with an advanced strategy, explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiRIDzRrHno

This allows you to be more pricise with your targeting, allowing you to avoid wasting your budget too much.

However performance max is easy to manage. So this might work as well. Every account is different, so I recommend experimenting what works and what doesn’t.
