Abandoned Carts Spam Bots (over 400 per Day)

For the past month we have been getting hit hard with the Add To Cart and Abandoning it Spam Bots in the thousands. Are they testing Stolen Credit Cards? Why isn’t Shopify caring about this? We hear that we have to upgrade to paying $2,300 per month to get Shopify to stop this with a Plus subscription. Not going to happen if you don’t support us as we’re growing. And us recommending Shopify the past few years to all the other business we work with, well that is definitely at risk here because this seems well documented for years on here.

Yes there are patterns in the addresses (like currently Bellevue, House Number 43, etc), but they change over time. They pick different products to add to the cart. This is not a “just create a filter for certain words” solution. That’s a hack at best.

We’re getting hit with 400 Abandoned Cart Bots a day! Yes, we have the Captcha turned on. We had to turn off our Newsletter subscription where we communicate with our customers because we can’t keep it clean. We can’t reach out to real people who abandoned their cart any more. We can no longer advertise our site for fear of losing revenue to Spam Clicks. Our metrics are now worthless as our Abandoned Cart flow is pointless (costs us money, time and reputation with sending false emails), not to mention what it does to our marketing planning. This can’t become the norm. What are we paying for if not a safe environment to build on?

Please don’t ignore this Shopify! You’re better than this. You need to prove to us that putting our efforts and money into you instead of the evil Bezos Beast is worth it.

Hi,

Hope this will help

  • A Bot Protection App can help
  • Use Smart Captcha on Cart Pages
  • Use JavaScript-Based Honeypots
  • Filter Traffic
  • Until this gets solved, stop auto-sending abandoned cart emails

None of those suggestions help. Also this is exactly what ChatGPT says,

Dear Shopify, like others on the multitudes of other posts have said, this is a dealbreaker. Please prioritize fixing this before we all A) go elsewhere or B) talk to a lawyer in regards to you not acknowledging or even attempting to address the problem.

We have Shopify Plus and it doesn’t help AT ALL. We are getting about 1000 a day still - every day since like around May 1. The only thing we are doing is creating an automated segment so that anyone who has been to checkout, never placed an order, and visited 5 or fewer pages gets put in that segment and i unsubscribe them every day. It’s ridiculous that Shopify cannot do anything about this. Correction: they can, they won’t.
