Access to order status page from Shopify admin requires credentials

Hello,

I have noticed that from a few days till now when I enter order status page for a customer order from Shopify admin that it requires to enter customer email and order number in order to see payment details.
In case of errors with payment provider it’s useful to resend to the customer or to check if there was any error.

Do you know if this was a new feature implemented? From Shopify admin I don’t understand the value. Just brings an additional step.

thanks

Hi

Did you find a solution to this?
I also use the order status url for our customers communication, and we dont know if this is a configuration issue or a policy implemented by shopiffy. anyway I think this does not help the customer side

Hi @matha and @fbritop !

Thank you for sharing your concern.

Shopify is enhancing security for both merchants and customers by introducing a verification prompt on the Order Status Page. Our priority is to ensure a seamless experience while addressing any potential challenges. We are actively implementing these improvements and will update our documentation accordingly.

Sory, but should be the normal way, to document changes and then apply them?.
So know you can change anything in shopify and no one gets the information?

I find this nothing to do with a security issue, as the order_status_url already carries an authenticate key for security. Moreover, we are getting to the Status Page from Shopify Admin, so it is our customer, and we the sellers, want to check out what the customer is really seeing.

This measure is absolutley arbitriary from shopify

Hi @Mac_2
I agree with @fbritop
I’d like the ability to view the order status page without requiring the user to log in. It would be beneficial to have an option in the Shopify admin to enable or disable authentication. Alternatively, allowing access to the full page information by adding details to the URL (client’s email address + order number) would be a great solution. I’ve also contacted Shopify Plus support about this. It’s quite urgent. Many thanks

Thanks!

Have you got any news from this issue?

Hello,

any news regarding this functionality?

Thanks, Jan

Any updates on this? I’m running into issues now too. Customers not able to locate order number or use different emails and can’t figure out how to login. There used to just be a pay now button…

I did notice that if I open the link in microsoft edge browser, it gives access without login, but on chrome, we need to login…

How does shopify get away with implementing stuff like this in the dark?

Yeah matha ! Shopify recently added that extra step where you need both the customer’s email and order number to view payment details. It’s part of their new security update, a bit of a hassle, I know.

If you’re looking for a smoother way to track orders and handle payment issues, I’d suggest trying out Shopify Order Status. It makes it way easier to manage orders, track progress, and update customers without dealing with the extra Shopify steps.

Hi @matha ,
Yes you’re not alone in noticing this. Shopify has recently made some changes to how the order status page behaves when accessed directly from the admin. In some cases, it now requires the customer’s email and order number to fully load details like payment status

From what we’ve seen, this seems to be part of Shopify’s push to tighten security and privacy controls around post-checkout data.

One workaround we’ve seen used is relying more on post-purchase apps that mirror some of that tracking and status info in a more flexible format. For example, apps like ParcelPanel Order Tracking give you and your customers a branded tracking page with synced fulfillment updates, so even if the Shopify status page requires re-authentication, you still have a fallback for sharing order progress or confirming delivery.

Of course, it won’t replace the full Shopify payment detail view, but it’s a helpful layer if you frequently handle support or status questions after checkout.
