Adding product recommendations to page template (NOT product page)

Hello,

I am using Dawn theme.

I have created a page template in the customizer. There I want to add product recommendations.

After I have added presets to product-recommendations.liquid I can add the section in the customizer, but it stays blank.

What am I missing? Is it only possible to add product recommendations to the product page?
