Adjusting the extent of a fill colour

Topic summary

Issue: A background “brick” color does not fill the entire highlighted box on both desktop and mobile. The unfilled white area varies by device, and no padding or border settings appear to be causing it. The user suspects the theme/template code is controlling the layout and wants the color to fully cover the box.

Context: Multiple screenshots are provided and are central to understanding the visual mismatch.

Requests/Proposals:

  • Participants asked for the store URL and password (if protected) to diagnose precisely.
  • A likely fix suggested is custom CSS to control the box’s dimensions or spacing.

Key terms:

  • CSS: the website’s styling code.
  • Padding: inner spacing inside an element.
  • Border: the outline around an element.

Latest update: Changes that worked yesterday are no longer working today; a link will be shared shortly for further review.

Status: Unresolved and ongoing.

Action items:

  • Provide store URL/password.
  • Inspect theme code and computed CSS (including margins/padding).
  • Compare desktop vs. mobile CSS rules and container sizing to ensure the fill covers the full box.

Slightly aprehensive about posting because I keep getting reprimanded for using this forum, I’ve been trying all day, (literally!) with your Scoop’s “help”, to make some tiny adjustments to my site.

It’s been partly successful but we seem to be at an impass.

As you can see from the screenshots, the brick colour on desktop & mobile doesn’t fill the full (blue, selected) box. Between us, Scoop & I cannot figure out what is controlling that. There are no padding settings or border settings. There is not a white element in there that’s stopping the brick colour. The amount of white is different on Desktop & mobile. I assume it’s something in the template code. All I want is for the brick colour to fill the box. Is this as easy a fix as I’m thinking it should be?

@Snowdog63 can you please share your website link? this might need custom css to fill the color

Just found that the work I did on the site yesterday (& was working fine) doesn’t seem to be working today. I’ll get a link up shortly.
