According to SheerID’s report,"How to Win Gen Z,” 54% say they prefer tangible gifts, than just a discount code.

Gotta say, SkinShop (a popular Irish beauty retailer) really nailed it! They offered free-with-purchase deals through BOGOS. Curious about the results? They raked in over €300,000 in revenue.

Big brands like Helio Care, The Face Shop, Dermalogica, and Into You Cosmetics are also crushing it with free gift campaigns.

Here’s the deal: Gen Z values experiences and something they can see, touch, or use over percentage discounts. Traditional promotions are becoming stale.

Thank you for your mind-blowing insights! I’m not a Gen Z myself, so I’m more used to discount codes, but as a beauty brand, I really want to attract this audience. Hmm… maybe for this Mother’s Day, I’ll try something different than a discount code.

I’m thinking of offering a free gift for orders over $X, but I’m unsure about setting the right “$X” amount. I’ve never run this type of offer before, so I’d really appreciate any advice you have on how to set that threshold.

My concern is that if the amount is too high, Gen Z might not find it as attractive.

From my experience, the best way to set the threshold is by looking at what your Gen Z customers usually bought for and how much they spent in Mother’s Day last year. From that, you can figure out the average amount per order they spend, then set your threshold just a little higher than that average amount.

The “higher” amount can be easily covered by buying a small item from your store (adjust to match your strategy), so Gen Z is still encouraged to spend a bit more but without feeling like the offer is out of reach.

Generally I can see the offer you described look like Free gift with purchase rule on Shopify.

In BiDeal Bundle Volume Discounts, we have that rule allow you set cart threshold to auto or manual choose gift to add to cart. If you’ve tried this app, we have documentation detail for that.
