Allow Local Pickup, Delivery, AND Shipping Options

I’m wondering if there is anyone who can offer a solution to an issue I’m having?

A couple of months ago I enabled Local Pickup for my store and when I did so, the Shipping Options were no longer available. I wasn’t even aware of this issue until the past weekend when someone a town over ordered from me and couldn’t check out unless she was willing to drive to my store location and she wasn’t able to do that. As a solution, I told her I would drop it by her house the following week, which I did.

I’ve been toying with the idea of offering local delivery (I live in a small town) so after delivering to my customer who had no shipping options, I thought I should just go ahead and set my store up to offer a delivery option, which I did. THEN, I discovered the pick-up option AND the shipping option were no longer available.

How do I fix this? I am a one-girl operation and don’t have the resources available to offer unlimited deliveries, nor would all of my customers WANT that. I would like for my customers to be able to CHOOSE which options they would like. Would you like it shipped to your home, would you prefer to pick it up, or would you like for me to deliver your package on Tuesday or Friday?

Thank you in advance for any recommendations you might have!

Hi Shelly! Bogi here from Zapiet - we create apps for Shopify.

I spotted your question and wanted to give you a few tips on setting up shipping, local pickup and local delivery.

Once you’ve enabled all 3 options in your Shopify Settings, your customer should see a “Ship” and “Pick up” option in cart like in my screenshot below:

If your customer selects ship from these two options, but then enters an address that is eligible for local delivery, they will see both the local delivery rate and shipping rate to choose from in the next step of checkout.

Our app Zapiet - Pickup + Delivery is an add-on for Shopify which allows you to display all three options to your customer in their shopping cart, on a clean-looking widget. It looks like this:

Once your customer has selected their preferred order method, they will proceed to checkout to place the order.

There are a bunch of additional tools available to you in the app such as offering your customers the ability to schedule a date & time for pickup and delivery, and so on.

If you fancy giving it a try, we offer a 30 day free trial. I think our Startup plan would be perfect for you as it’s aimed at small businesses. We have a hands-on support team that can help you to configure the app to your needs so you can give it a try :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Bogi!

Thank you so much for answering my question and your app looks exactly what I need.

I’ll definitely put in on my wishlist for the future…

Regards,

Shelly

Hi there! I totally understand your frustration—Shopify’s default setup doesn’t always handle multiple fulfillment methods smoothly, especially when you’re trying to offer pickup, local delivery, and shipping at the same time.

When you enable multiple fulfillment methods, Shopify can show a confusing “Shipping / Pickup” selector on the first page of checkout. If it’s not set up correctly, customers may only see one option (like Pickup), causing the others (like Shipping) to disappear entirely—exactly the issue you’re seeing.

One reliable workaround is to use the Bird Pickup & Delivery app. It’s designed specifically to give your customers the flexibility to choose between Shipping, Local Delivery, or Pickup, and also allows you to control when each is available. You can:

  • Offer all 3 methods at once

  • Set available days and times for delivery or pickup

  • Avoid the “missing option” problem at checkout

Here’s a help article from their team that explains why this happens and how to fix it:

Let me know if you’d like help getting it set up—I’ve seen it work well for other solo-run stores just like yours!
