Are SEO apps effective for improving SERP performance?

Hi, I’m new to Shopify and want my store to perform better on SERPs. However, there are tons of SEO apps out there. Are they worth adding, do people actually get better results with these SEO apps or do they not in your opinion add any value to your store?

Thanks!

Probably not worth it. Shopify is pretty well optimised for SEO out of the box.

Main on-site things to get right are:

  • check all your pages load quickly

  • make sure your product descriptions are unique

  • add Alt tags to all images

  • use Collection descriptions and think about how to structure your collections from an SEO perspective

  • use blog posts

  • internal linking

  • Various other small tweaks but the above should get you most of the way there.

Ahrefs has a decent and free site auditing tool that you can set to run regularly and will highlight things to fix. https://ahrefs.com/webmaster-tools

The rest is then down to off-site SEO, targeting the right keywords, backlinks, etc.

Thanks, that’s what I thought too but wasn’t sure.

It’s not necessary. There are many free tools that you can use such as broken link check . com

And screaming frog is a free way to check that you have only one H1 tag per page.

Hi David,

As others have stated, Shopify is quite well optimized out of the box, so many apps are often not worth the investment. That said, one thing that works like a charm is blog activity. You can either post regularly yourself, or check out Blog Pilot, which creates consistent, high-quality and optimized blog posts. This gives the search engine crawlers more content to index and shows activity on your storefront.

Blog Pilot automates the blog post creation and management process for you, posting once per week automatically. We offer a free trial as well!
