Automated Email Reminders on Specific Date

Topic summary

A Shopify user is seeking a way to send automated email reminders one week before art class sessions and workshops. They currently use Shopify Email for post-purchase informational emails but cannot find a native solution for date-specific reminder scheduling.

Recommended Solutions:

  • Klaviyo or Omnisend: Create date-based email flows triggered seven days before event dates using custom properties set at checkout
  • Shopify Flow (Plus only): Set up automation triggers, though requires integration with external email apps
  • Event Ticketing Apps (Events Calendar, BookThatApp, Sesami): All-in-one solutions with built-in automated reminder functionality

Key Limitation: Shopify Email lacks native event-specific scheduling capabilities, requiring third-party tools to layer reminder automation onto existing workflows.

The discussion remains open with no confirmation from the original poster on which solution they’ll implement.

Hello,

We are currently using Shopify as a registration system for local art classes sessions and workshops. I would like to set up automated email reminders a week before any of our events occur and I’m having issues finding a solution using Shopify Email.

We currently have automations set up for classes to send an informational email once the specific product is created and I would also like to add the one week reminder on top of that, but haven’t figured out how to layer this together. Is there a better app we could be using in order to assure our students are getting the information they need at the correct times?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @egering

It sounds like you’re running into limitations with Shopify Email when trying to set up automated reminders for your art classes. Since Shopify Email doesn’t have built-in scheduling for event-specific reminders, you’ll need to use a different solution to automate the one-week reminder before each session.

Here’s what you can do to set up automated reminders efficiently:#### 1. Use Shopify Flow (For Shopify Plus)

If you’re on Shopify Plus, you can set up an automation in Shopify Flow to trigger emails based on the class date. However, Flow doesn’t have a native email function, so you’d still need an email app like Klaviyo or Omnisend to send the actual reminder.

2. Klaviyo – Best for Automated Email Sequences

I highly recommend Klaviyo because it allows you to create date-based flows. You can set a trigger for an email to be sent exactly seven days before the event date. This works well if your classes are created as products with a specific purchase date.

How to Set It Up in Klaviyo:- Create a “Date Property Triggered Flow”
  • Use the class session date as a custom property (this can be added at checkout or via an integration like Event Ticketing apps)
  • Set the email to go out 7 days before the event date
  • Customize your email to include class details, location, and any necessary reminders

3. Omnisend – Another Solid Option

Omnisend works similarly to Klaviyo but is sometimes easier for beginners. You can use event-based triggers to send reminders based on the session date.

4. Shopify Event Ticketing Apps (For Easier Setup)

If you prefer an all-in-one solution, you can use event-focused Shopify apps like:

  • Events Calendar App
  • BookThatApp
  • Sesami

These apps allow customers to book specific dates and will often include built-in automated reminders (via email or SMS), which saves you from manually setting up additional email sequences.

Which Solution Should You Choose?- If you’re on Shopify Plus → Try Shopify Flow + Klaviyo

  • If you need advanced automation & marketing → Klaviyo or Omnisend
  • If you want an easy event-focused solution → Use an Event Ticketing App

Since you already have an automation set up for when the product is created, adding Klaviyo or Omnisend should be the simplest way to layer in the one-week reminder without messing with your current system.

Let me know if you need help setting up any of these!
Best regards,
Daisy
