Automatic location selection based on Customer's shipping address or based on nearest warehouse

Hello Shopify Community

We are looking to have multiple partners fulfilling our orders throughout Europe.

To be able to ship goods at cheaper shipping cost.

At the moment, Shopify choses location based on inventory availability and location priorities.

This cannot serve our goal.

We would like Shopify to select location based on :

  • Customer’s shipping country (Preferred)

  • Distance between Customer’s shipping address and Nearest location/warehouse

  • Any selection algorithm that you think might be better :slightly_smiling_face:

We have searched the different apps, and didn’t find one.

But no success there

Most recent developments allow the user to present multiple locations/warehouse and available quantities per warehouse.

Or having one variant per country, and only showing the defined product variant based on Customer IP (which might not be correct because billing and shipping address/country might be different)

We want the choice to be transparent for the Customer

this is purely internal process, and for cost related issue

You can set this up easily using Order Fulfillment Guru in under 5 minutes.

Here’s how you’d set it up:

  1. Install the Order Fulfillment Guru app (includes free 14 day trial) and select the Professional plan
  2. Go to Auto-assign locations
  3. Create fulfillment priority #1
    1. If you need to route based on inventory availability, enable Available inventory at location and decided whether you want to use Partial fulfillment or All-or-none fulfillment
    2. EnableShipping address country and select which countries the rule would apply to
    3. Select the location in Assign location or Fulfillment partner
  4. Repeat and create as many Fulfillment priorities as needed. Recommend creating a default one as the last one in previous rules don’t match

We are looking for this exact same thing… We don’t need Location Priority (how Shopify currently works for multi-location stores), but we want to fulfill the order with the inventory location that’s the closest to the customer shipping address.

Were you able to use the Order Fulfillment Guru and make it work to achieve this?
