Automatically capture payment and fulfill online gift card purchases

Is there a way to automatically capture the payment for an online gift card purchase? We have set up our gift cards to automatically fulfill after we accept payment, but we would like to automatically accept payment AND fulfill the order without any human intervention whatsoever. Is this possible?

Note: we only want this for gift card purchases only.

I also sell a Digital Products, specifically license keys for a product so you could do the same as me.

Install EDP - Easy Digital Products (https://apps.shopify.com/easy-digital-products))

After the installation you can add all your Giftcards in the App and setup the auto email delivery, for the fullfilling part enable this:

I would also enable this:

Although be cautios this will still capture the payments if the order was marked as high risk, Gift Cards are subject to a lot of fraud so i would suggest you to not capture payments that have a high fraud risk using Shopify Flow (https://apps.shopify.com/flow))

I would have thought it should auto-fulfill and auto-capture a gift card purchase? I just tried in my test store with a dummy checkout and it did that. But perhaps it works differently with a live payment gateway. Do you have your payments configured to not auto capture in general but you want to auto capture just your gift card orders?

Yes, you got it Kalen, we have our payments configured to not auto capture in general but we want to auto capture on gift card orders only.

Gotcha. So we have an automation app called mesa with a feature that would allow you to capture funds automatically in a workflow. I could build out a workflow for you if you’re interested?

One question - what if an order contains a gift card as well as other products? Do you want to capture the whole payment amount for the order?

If there were other items in the order we would not automatically capture the payment, it would just be for gift cards only.

What costs are associated with going this route?
