I am using the Shopify barcode app to create my barcodes.
I have a product with 4 variants, each with a unique barcode.
When I open the POS app and use my camera phone to scan the barcode, the correct product and variant is displaying - I hit add to cart and all is good.
When I use the Socket S700 reader, the product displays, but I have to select my variant before I can add to cart.
I need it to behave like the camera does, as I have some products with many variants - what am I missing?
Each variant has a unique SKU and barcode ISBN/UPC - at the variant level, not the product level.
They scan perfectly ok, down to the variant, when using the iOS camera as the scanner, but not when using the barcode reader - those only go down to the product level.
So I think I answered my own question, and there are two different results.
If you open the POS app, and before you do anything else, you scan a barcode - then the correct product and variant lands in the cart immediately. This is good behaviour.
If you open the POS app and click the Search bar, then scan a barcode - it will bring up the product only - and you have to click on the variant, then add to cart. This is not so good.
It’s something that, now we know, we can avoid - it was just frustrating for a while to figure it out.
Does this only work with the Socket barcode scanners sold by Shopify? I’m trying this with ScanAvenger Portable 1D&2D Scanner. It will only let me scan if the search bar is selected.
Did you get an answer to this ? We also have to scan with the search bar selected and it brings up all the variants which is far too slow a way of processing for our store.
Basically you HAVE to use the socket scanner from Shopify on “app” mode (rather than keyboard mode). I ended up buying a separate scanner to use with my computer so I don’t have to switch the socket scanner between app and keyboard mode going back and forth from iPad to laptop.
