BIN Locations

Any business with more than 100 products needs BIN locations. We’ve been asking for it for over 10 years. Product attribute = BIN Location. And push that to Shipstation etal.

Shopify does inventory on the variant level, not by product.
And they do have some bins there, quick search reveals this – https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/inventory/setup/bin-locations

Note this:

Added last year I guess – Track your stock with new “Bin name” column - Shopify Changelog

nice find! it looks like it can be set up via CSV import. Checked the API docs but looks like they haven’t made it available yet to developers. Still, it’s great to see this part of core Shopify and it shows up on the pick lists

Yes, unfortunately, it’s not in API yet.

@MOTOSTUFF (I :heart_suit: motos by the way  ). Shopify is first a sales platform, and not really an operations (fulfillment, shipping, inventory management/planning) platform. Though it has some features that you can use, as you become more sophisticated and complex, you will grow out of their features and require proper systems.

Not saying you’re there yet, but one you have Bin locations, then you’ll start to need mobile cycle counting, best pick path picking, multi-order picking, active pick bins vs overstock locations, barcoded receiving and putaway, etc.

And if you have 100 SKUs and are shipping 20 - 30+ orders per day, you likely are already running into other issues with inventory stockouts, not knowing when and how much to restock, kits, automatic PO creation, and more that is probably costing you more than the cost of getting a proper system. Plus having such a system provides a platform for continued growth were you’re not having to worry about your operations breaking down to keep up.

Thanks for the suggestions, we just want a simple integrated solution for 90% of the users who use Shipstatipn. Why can’t it be a simple product attribute field that can be pushed ot the Shipstation pick ticket? Our current Kluge to work with Shopify’s Klugey system is below. We add it to the end of the description for such a classy professional look……

Ha, not very slick, but I guess it works.
