From my experience using Google Ads, it seems like a lot of the traffic being sent to my website were bots. Is this a known issue for Google? How is it being address and more specifically what can I do within my campaign to prevent this from happening?

I guess it’s possible, but I have never noticed it. I would not know how it is being addressed, as that is a Google Ads question, meaning Google needs to answer your question.

That said, in a lot of cases what people think are “invalid clicks” often turn out to be genuine. It’s pretty common for this to happen if ads are showing up for irrelevant search terms or audiences. I’d recommend first digging into your Google Ads reports to see where the clicks are coming from. If you notice irrelevant queries, just add them as negatives so you’re not wasting budget there.
Start with your own data and make adjustments where needed. If after that you still see activity that really looks suspicious, and you have clear evidence, then definitely submit it to Google for review.
