BRING BACK FINANCIAL SUMMARY PRINTABLE REPORT

Topic summary

Shopify has removed the ability to print and export the Financial Summary Report, a critical tool many merchants relied on for daily accounting and QuickBooks data entry. Users are expressing significant frustration over this change.

Key impacts:

  • Merchants who manually entered sales data using this one-page report can now only view it on-screen
  • The removal has disrupted established workflows, with one user reporting their daily process now takes 20+ minutes of manual copying/pasting
  • Existing macros and pivot tables tied to this export are now broken
  • Shopify’s suggested solution is purchasing third-party apps

User concerns:

  • Multiple users view this as part of a pattern where Shopify removes features and pushes paid app alternatives
  • References to similar past issues (saved cart feature removal, inventory reporting problems, QuickBooks export bugs)
  • One user notes inventory reports now show incorrect values (dropped from $1.2M to $250K)

Current status:

  • Support staff acknowledge the concerns and recommend users complain via live chat and community forums
  • Alternative reports like “Total Sales by Order” offer partial solutions with additional fields
  • Users are skeptical about restoration based on Shopify’s historical response to feedback
  • The issue remains unresolved as of May 25, 2025

I am furious. I am sick of the developers at Shopify following the ‘chaos first’ mandate. You win! You create chaos every day and I don’t know how you retain customers at all.

You have removed the ability for us to print the one and only financial report that we need to export daily, in order to enter our sales data in Quickbooks. Since Shopify has so many unresolved bugs, including the one that let’s us export our data to quickbooks, we have to enter it manually. For nearly five years I have manually entered it all, using a simple one page report. As of today - that report is gone. I called in and was told I can see that report on a screen, but I can’t print it anymore. If I want to print it I can pay for another app! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. Can you hear my frustration in my text?!

Just no. Stop with the bait and switch. Save cart. Financial summary report. BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO PRINT THAT. It is one simple button. ENOUGH SHOPIFY! STOP ABUSING YOUR CUSTOMERS!

Totally Agree!!! This is the single, most frustrating thing Shopify has ever done. Which is impressive because they continue to annoy me with the only solution to my problems being another app. This is the report that I process my daily cash deposits from and then sent to my bookkeeper to enter to Quickbooks. It was so seamless. Now it is taking me 20 minutes to copy and paste the information that she needs. If there was a way I could type a scream, I would.

This is insane!! We used to see reports for in stock total inventory every month but now is completely wrong… we used to have 1.2 million in stock but now it dropped to 250k amd we can’t get a good report..

Petgrocer thank you for posting this. We to have used the Financial Summary Report AND the export of the Total Sales detail to create our accounting entries, weekly for the last 3.5 years.

Shopify Developers, for you to remove this critical business report and its export while providing customers with a haphazard collection of replacements represents terrible customer support and poor forethought on keeping customers happy. BRING BACK THE FINANCIAL SUMMARY REPORT AND KEEP THE EXPORT AS IT WAS. PLEASE! We have several macros and pivot tables tied to this export and you are causing significant rework by your action to remove this report. Please re-instate asap! May 25, 2025.

You have to make sure that you (waste your time, but it’s the only way) reach out to customer service to have them lodge the complaint. That is the only way Shopify makes any user requested changes (in rare cases). Given how much they completely ignored the HUGE outcry from POS users about the save cart feature being removed and a useless replacement being put in, I have exactly zero hope they will resolve this either. Shopify literally does not care what the end user wants, their own help desk people are as frustrated as the users. The upper management believes they are above needing to consider how the software actually works - listen to Tobias Lutke and you will see why we have no hope. I’m testing other platforms constantly, and am willing to lose all my years of links from our advertising to get out of this hellish system.

I worked via live chat with the support team yesterday, 5/25/25. The individual I chatted with understood and supported these concerns and fully agreed to raise them with the development team. They said that the live chat support sessions + this community forum were the 2 best locations for us to voice our concerns about the frustrating removal of the Financial Summary Report. They did show some reports like the the Total Sales by Order rpt where we can add several additional fields and categories that allow detailed exports and have solved some, but not all of my problems. I understand the skepticism given prior Shopify responses, however I believe that if enough users complain about the removed Financial Summary Report then our chances may be increased.

The only way to effect change is through volume of complaints. But even then, sometimes they dig their heels in and refuse to acknowledge the users needs (ie: save cart).

I am a BAS Agent and discovered this while starting to process a client’s EOFY. I thought I was missing something as this report is a pivotal report for finance people. Ridiculous to remove the ability to download it.
