I have a gentleman messaging me that says that he is from Shopify and works for a gentleman named John Garcia, and his name is Raymond. Can somebody please verify to me if this is a genuine employer or if anyone has worked with him? They’re wanting me to pay $100 for this tool kit they say I need because of having a check out issue.

That’s a scam. Shopify staff don’t DM merchants out of the blue, there’s no paid “tool kit”, and support never charges you to fix a checkout issue. Anyone asking for $100 to unlock something on your store is fishing.
Block him and don’t send anything. If you’ve already given him any access, go to Settings > Users in your admin and remove any staff or collaborator account you don’t recognise, then change your password. And if you do have a real checkout problem, post the details here and someone will help you sort it for free.
