Bulk Editor

AI-generated summary

A merchant reports that Shopify’s Bulk Editor reselects most columns each morning, forcing them to manually deselect unwanted fields. They ask whether column selections can be saved or whether there is a one-click way to deselect all columns.

The suggested workaround is to edit the edit= parameter in the Bulk Editor URL so it contains only the desired columns, then bookmark that URL. Example: edit=title,variants.price,variants.sku. However, there is no built-in setting to save column selections and no “deselect all” button.

A later reply notes this behavior is a known Shopify bug: columns may be added back even when using a bookmarked URL with a specific edit= parameter. The issue is reportedly being tracked, but there is no fix timeline.

Recommended next steps are to report the specific bookmarked-URL behavior to Shopify Support and, if reliable saved column views are critical, consider using a dedicated bulk editing app. The issue remains unresolved.

In bulk editor, every time we log in, in the morning, every(most) column is automatically sellected. I de-select them, but next time I log in, they’re back. Is there a way to make the columns you’ve been working on, automatically be selected the next time you log in? Or is there a way to de-select all the columns (toggle on and off) in one go, and just select the columns you want to work on.

There isn’t a setting to save your column selection. The columns that show up are controlled by the edit= part of the URL.

Keep only the columns you need inedit=, press Enter, then bookmark that URL. Open the bulk editor from that bookmark each day, and it’ll start with just those columns.

For example: edit=title,variants.price,variants.sku

There’s no one-click “deselect all” button, and the editor may occasionally add a column back on its own.

Hi @Gladstonehifi,

Building on @jowel-66’s bookmark tip, it’s worth knowing this is a known, actively tracked bug rather than something specific to your setup, which changes how reliable that workaround actually is and what to do next.

Multiple merchants have reported the exact same thing you’re describing, columns being added back on their own, even from a bookmarked URL with a specific edit= parameter, sometimes just from reopening the same link in a new tab. Shopify’s own developer forum has a thread where staff acknowledged this is a separate, real bug from the general “columns don’t persist by default” limitation, and confirmed it’s still being tracked with no fixed timeline as of recently. So the bookmark trick is worth doing since it’s the best available workaround, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t hold 100% of the time, that’s not something you’re doing wrong. It’s the editor itself being inconsistent about respecting the URL.

Given that, it’s worth filing this with Shopify Support directly rather than only relying on the bookmark, and being specific in the report: mention that columns are being added back even when reopening a bookmarked edit= URL, not just on a fresh search, since that’s the part staff have said is a distinct bug from the known missing “remember my last columns” feature. The more merchants report the specific reopening-a-bookmark case, the more concrete evidence there is for prioritizing a fix, since right now it’s being tracked as a handful of individual reports rather than something Shopify has fully reproduced and scoped.

If you need something more reliable in the meantime, a few merchants who edit thousands of products regularly have moved to a dedicated bulk editing app that supports actual saved views, since Shopify’s own bulk editor doesn’t have that concept at all yet, just the URL as your only “memory.”
