Can i collect UK VAT on orders over £135 to the UK from EU

Topic summary

An EU-based seller wants to collect UK VAT at checkout on all orders to UK customers, regardless of value, to simplify the process and prevent couriers from contacting customers later for payment.

Current UK VAT rules:

  • Orders under £135: Seller collects VAT
  • Orders over £135: VAT typically not collected at checkout

Proposed solution:
Another user shared a workaround involving custom code or settings adjustments (via a community forum link) that allows charging VAT on orders exceeding £135.

Key compliance requirement:
This approach is only legitimate if the EU seller has UK VAT registration with HMRC. Without proper registration, collecting UK VAT on orders over £135 would not be compliant.

Remaining question:
The original poster is asking whether UK VAT registration requires a physical UK location or if a forwarding postal address is sufficient. This question remains unanswered in the discussion.

Hey @Makeit that link is to this page.
love to hear how you worked it..

Sorry

sorry, Try this one

Thanks @Makeit I would have never thought of that.

Can i ask, Is this all above board with HMRC,

Are they ok with EU Sellers charging VAT on ordrs over £135

Yes in our case @Chimevault it is ok, becuase we (our company) was a VAT registration in the UK - otherwise it would not be ok of course.

@Makeit Do you have a physical location in the UK,
Or do you just have a forwarding postal address.

Sorry for all the questions..
