Can I diversify delivery costs on a basic Shopify plan?

Hi all,

Is it possible to diverse delivery costs without being forced to purchase the advanced Shopify for $299 per month to add apps?

The $299 plan will be too expensive for my little business.

At the moment I’m only able to set a fixed delivery cost.

To clarify, are you hoping to connect your own third-party carrier accounts, so that you can display live shipping rates at checkout? If so, you need to have the carrier-calculated shipping feature on your store’s Shopify subscription plan to connect your own shipping carrier accounts to Shopify. Once you add this feature, you can then use your carrier accounts and shipping apps! The feature can be added in three ways:

  • This feature is included in the Advanced Shopify and Shopify Plus plans, as you mentioned.
  • This feature can be added to any plan for a monthly fee (20$ USD/month).
  • However, if you’re on the Shopify plan or below, and you switch from monthly to yearly billing, you can ask to get the third-party calculated shipping rates to feature added for free! You also save money on your subscription by switching to the annual plan.

If you would like to add this feature by one of the following options, please reach out to our support team to have it enabled. To do so, visit our Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request. Once you have logged in to your account, type your request in ‘Ask about a topic’, scroll down to ‘Get Support’ and then click ‘Continue.

May I ask where your business is located? I just want to mention that if your store is eligible for Shopify Shipping, then you can display calculated rates to your customers using Shopify’s shipping carrier accounts. You don’t need to have your own shipping carrier account, rates are included by default in your Shopify admin, and you can buy discounted shipping labels directly from your Shopify admin.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear more about your business plans. Is this a new venture that you’ve started? How has everything been going so far?

My business is located in Denmark, and I want to differentiate my shipping rates based on zip codes in Denmark, countries outside Denmark will have fixed rates, so that’s no problem.

But ex. I want to make 10 different categories for shipping rates based on zip codes.

I’ve tried to do so in the Shipping and Delivery section, but it’s only possible to differentiate based on weight or order price. I’ve also tried to use an app called “Shipmondo”, in that app I was able to set different rates based on zip code, but then when I tried to add those rates to the Shipping and Delivery section → Add rate → Use carrier or app to calculate rates, nothing appeared.

But is it properly understood that for one of the two options mentioned below, I’ll be able to fulfill my zip code-based rates as described above?

  • $20 extra per month

  • Changing my existing plan (Basic Shopify) payment from monthly to yearly

Thanks for getting back to me with that clarifying information. I appreciate it! Since you are hoping to differentiate your shipping rates by zip code, you will need to use an advanced shipping app as you mentioned.

You got it! These apps, such as Shipmondo, require you to enable carrier-calculated shipping. By enabling the feature through the monthly fee or annual plan, you will be able to use any app that requires the feature.
