ive heard on multiple occasions that subscriptions have some requirements from shopify (using Shopify Payments or PayPal) is there any work around?

I just wanted to clarify what you’re asking here to make sure that we are on the same page - do you mean that in order for you to be able to have a Shopify subscription, you must use the gateways that you mentioned?
If so, I wanted to clarify that this is not the case. The gateways that you use on your store depend on where you’re based and what is available in your region. What country are you operating from? You will be able to see what gateways are available to you in our list of supported payment gateways - you will just need to scroll down and select your region from the list. Let me know if you have a preference from there!
However, if you were not referring to the above, is it possible that you meant selling subscriptions? If so, it is true that you are required to use one of the following gateways:
- Shopify Payments
- PayPal Express
- Authorize.net
- Stripe, which is only available to some merchants
Please do check the list of supported gateways that I mentioned earlier to see if the region that you’re based in supports any of the above, and that way you will be able to set this up. For the rest of the requirements and steps, I have a help guide for you here.

Well, we are currently on our own platform, and have considered moving to Shopify, however, subscriptions are necessary for our business and none of the payment providers, that you listed are applicable to us. But thanks a ton for the answer.
I totally understand. What region are you based in? I would be more than happy to forward this feedback to our developers so that we hopefully see other gateways added to this list in the future, if you ever wish to consider Shopify again.
There are also apps out there which allow you to accept the so called “recurring invoice” subscriptions in your shop. These kind of subscriptions don’t automatically charge your customers, but instead, they send your customers an invoice when the time comes to renew their subscription and then, your customers manually pay for the invoice in the Shopify checkout system (your customers never leave Shopify).
