Can you recommend a solution for automated shipping and order tracking?

Hello,

I am building out a store for a client who wants to sell a service to customize old and worn garments and turn them into something new.

The client would like customers to purchase a customization service via their website and once purchased have a software solution that could auto-generate a shipping label with their business address that is then sent to the customer via their order confirmation email.

Once the garment has been customized, the client would then like the system to generate a return shipping label so they can send the garment back. They also want the customer to be able to “track their order” and see what the status of their order is (example: en route, received, being customized, finalized, returning to customer).

Are there any known solutions out there that can accomplish this? Or some sort of workarounds with existing software solutions?

Sounds like your client’s basically running a circular fashion service, so you’ll need two automations:

  1. Logistics automation (labels + returns)

  2. Post-purchase tracking and status updates

For the label automation, Shopify alone can’t generate both outbound and return labels automatically. You’ll likely need a fulfillment app like ShipStation, EasyPost, or Sendcloud, all of which can generate and email a prepaid label to the customer as soon as the order’s placed. Some stores also automate this with Shopify Flow + a shipping app webhook if they’re on Plus.

Once the garment comes back and gets customized, you can trigger another label from your dashboard to send it home again.

Then for the order tracking and progress visibility (the “en route → received → being customized → finalized” part), something like ParcelPanel Order Tracking works really well. It auto-syncs tracking numbers from 1400+ carriers, gives you a branded “Track My Order” page, and you can even add custom statuses so customers see meaningful updates (not just “in transit”).
