Cannot cancel subscription or order

Topic summary

A user is being charged for a turmeric subscription from Pure Ingredients that they don’t recall ordering. Two orders were placed but never received, and attempts to cancel have failed because:

Company appears defunct:

  • Email address bounces back
  • Website no longer exists
  • Phone number disconnected
  • Products listed as no longer sold

Charges continue despite this. Shopify directed the user back to the merchant, which isn’t helpful given the circumstances.

Recommended solutions:

  • Contact bank immediately to block future charges from this merchant
  • Consider canceling the card entirely and requesting a new one
  • File complaints with consumer protection agencies (FTC in the U.S.)
  • Check Shopify billing settings for any cancellation options

Status: Unresolved. The user needs to pursue resolution through their financial institution and regulatory channels since the merchant is unreachable.

I don’t remember ordering anything from Pure Ingredients, but I apparently have a subscription for tumeric. It placed two orders and I haven’t received either. I tried to contact the company, but the email provided bounces back as defunct. There is no more website and it says products are no longer sold, but they have been taking out money from my account. The bank found a telephone number, but that is disconnected.

I have also contacted Shopify, but they said to get in touch with the company. How do I cancel this subscription that I never placed for a product that I don’t want?

Thanks!

Have you found out the past bills existing on Shopify Billing option? If you can find it out, you shall be able to get the button of cancelling as well. Please further check on your store settings.

Hi @user330 ,

See there are 3 steps you can do now since the email are bounced.

Contact The Bank Immediately and Ask the bank to block further charges from that merchant.
Cancel Through the Card Provider - If charges continue, you can cancel the card entirely and request a new one with a different number. Some banks allow blocking individual merchants.
Report the Company: File a complaint with the local consumer protection agency. In the U.S, you can also report to the FTC (https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/).
