Can't Enter State/Region for New Customers

Apologies in advance for ranting…

Is there a reason why when you create a new customer from the admin it let’s you enter the address, including street address and postal code but it does not let you enter the state/region like it would on ANY other address entry on ANY other platform?

Time and time again when I need to create a draft order for a new customer, I set up the customer and then set up the draft order and then if the order is processed (especially donation/demo orders) the shipping address doesn’t include a state/region and then the order will not synch with shipping. I then have to remember that I need to go back in and add the state/region.

This seems like a huge oversight, very counterintuitive and something that should be easy to fix. Or am I missing some step that would avoid this? Thanks.

Hi @jpruellage

Thank you for reaching out about this. I did some testing in my own store and I can see that when I first go to create a new customer (Admin Home > Customers > Create new customer), I am seeing all the address fields excluding the “state/province” field. This changes though once I choose a country from the first drop down list at the top of the window (see screenshot below):

And then after I choose the country, this is what I see:

If you are seeing something different would you be able to share some screenshots with me? Or if you are using a different flow to create your customers, feel free to share those steps as well.

Thanks Shay! I missed the country designation at the top, so that solves it. I guess it allows you to create the customer even without that designated.

Shay my customers may not have an account so how do they put their address in? It’s still the same problem it does not allow us to put the customer’s State in because she does not want to do an account.

Thank you in advance!
