I’m trying to figure out how to change which subcategories come up below the main home page link. I would like them to be different categories that we have on our website like Clothing, Homeware, Vintage, Apothecary.
These are called Sitelinks and there is no option with Google to change these, they are automated.

Hello @lilyvh ,
Good day! Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
What you are seeing are called Sitelinks. The site owner cannot add any sitelinks. Google adds them through its own secret automated algorithms. Although you cannot directly control or choose the sitelinks that Google displays, you can influence them by following these best practices.
-
Clear and Consistent Navigation
Ensure that your website has a clear and intuitive navigation structure. Use organized menus and hierarchical categories that make it easy for both users and search engines to understand the content and structure of your site. -
Internal Linking
Implement internal linking throughout your website to connect relevant pages and create a logical hierarchy. By linking from your homepage or other prominent pages to important category or product pages, you increase the likelihood of those pages appearing as sitelinks in search results. -
Page Titles and Meta Descriptions
Craft unique and descriptive page titles and meta descriptions for each page of your Shopify store. These elements should accurately reflect the content of the respective pages and entice users to click. While they may not directly impact sitelinks, they contribute to a positive overall user experience. -
XML Sitemap
Generate an XML sitemap for your Shopify store and submit it to Google Search Console. This helps search engines discover and index your website’s pages more efficiently. While submitting a sitemap doesn’t guarantee sitelinks, it improves the chances of search engines understanding your site’s structure. -
Mobile-Friendly Design
Ensure that your Shopify store is optimized for mobile devices. With the increasing number of mobile searches, Google tends to prioritize mobile-friendly websites for sitelinks. -
High-Quality Content
Create informative, engaging, and valuable content on your Shopify store. This includes product descriptions, blog posts, and other relevant information. High-quality content not only improves your chances of appearing in search results but also contributes to a positive user experience. -
Website Speed and Performance
Optimize your Shopify store for fast loading times. Google considers website speed as a ranking factor and prioritizes websites that offer a seamless user experience. -
Schema Markup
Implement structured data markup (schema.org) on your Shopify store. Schema markup helps search engines understand your content better and can potentially enhance the visibility of your site in search results.
Remember that sitelinks are automatically generated by Google’s algorithms based on various factors, including the relevance of content, user behavior, and website structure. While following these best practices can improve your chances of having sitelinks displayed, there is no guaranteed method to select or change sitelinks directly. It’s important to focus on optimizing your website’s overall user experience and providing valuable content to attract and engage visitors.
